Nickelodeon Finishes First in Quarter Among Kid Viewers

by on April 2, 2008

Nickelodeon finished first among all kid demographics in the first quarter of 2008, the network said today. The network had the top five kid programs and increased its ratings across the board.

Among kids 2-11 the network had 1.3 million viewers, beating the Disney Channel’s 923,000 and Cartoon Network’s 566,000. In the 6-11 demographic, Nickelodeon garnered 707,000 viewers and among tweens 9-14 it had 522,000 viewers.

Nickelodeon credited the strong performance in part to its having the top five shows among kids 2-11, including SpongeBob SquarePants, iCarly, Back at the Barnyard, The Fairly OddParents, and Zoey 101.

The channel also benefited from its broadcast of the 2008 Kids’ Choice Awards and The Fairly OddParents‘ Presidents’ Day special. The former set a record for the show by garnering 7.4 million viewers. Total viewership for the Awards, which was the number one show for the week with kids and tweens, rose 22% over last year’s broadcast.

The event also set a record for participation with 89.3 million votes cast, doubling last year’s record, and giving Nick.com its highest trafficked day ever, with 1.7 million unique visitors and 27.1 million page views.
