Nick, Disney Post Record May Performances
Nickelodeon scored its best-ever May performance with an average of 2.1 million total viewers, the network said today. It was also the number-one basic cable network with kids 2-11, kids 6-11, and with total viewers for the month. Nick at Nite, Nick Jr., TeenNick and Nicktoons each also posted their best May performances ever with total viewers.
The kid network credited its success to SpongeBob SquarePants and The Penguins of Madagascar, which were May’s top two animated series on broadcast and basic cable with kids 2-11. It also had the top five preschool shows in May: Team Umizoomi, Dora the Explorer, Max and Ruby, Go, Diego, Go! and Ni Hao, Kai-lan.
Nicktoons scored a major success during the month with Dragon Ball Z Kai, which set a record as the highest-rated series premiere in the network’s history.
Separately, the Disney Channel said it had its most-watched May with 2.3 million total prime-time viewers and 943,000 viewers in the kids 6-11 demographic. It also saw gains among tweens 9-14.
Phineas and Ferb was TV’s number one animated series with kids 6-11 (1.0 million viewers) and tweens 9-14 (839,000).
