Next Ghibli Feature To Be Announced Dec. 13; Oshii Will Direct Love Story
Nausicaa.net reports on a talk at the Tokyo International Film Festival between Studio Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki and director Mamoru Oshii, in which Suzuki revealed that the studio will announce Dec. 13 the name of the property that will be the basis for the next Ghibli feature.
Previously, Suzuki had said that Ghibli was in the planning stages on three feature films, one each helmed by studio founders Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata and one based on a Western work. Which project Suzuki was referring to is still unknown.
In the same panel, Mamoru Oshii appeared to have once again forgotten his avowed dislike of animation, saying he will direct a full-length animated love story. Nausicaa reported Oshii described the story as “very rare for me,” and agreed that, from his perspective, the plot will be straightforward.
