• Before Venkman or Egon, before Jake or Eddie, there were the REAL Real Ghostbusters: the 1975 Saturday Morning show by the same title that had no relation to the 1984 movie! The Ghostbuster name was originally worn by two bumbling fools and a man in a gorilla suit? Now that's scary!

EDITORIAL
(by Laura Hysert, aka "Phoenix")

Unfortunately, Ms. Hysert's internet-access has been temporarily cut back, but she will return for the next issue with another editorial about nothing (very Seinfeld-ish, huh?).

LITTLE FACTS
(by Tim "TWO-FACE" Leighton)

Here is a section that just points out various little facts that we have noticed while watching BTAS and STAS countless times. If you have anything to contribute, feel free to do so! Enjoy!

CONTRIBUTED BY "WADE WILSON":
1) In one scene of "Girls' Night Out", we actually get to see up Supergirl's skirt. Now, this is no real big deal, but we all must ask ourselves this: HOW'D THIS GET BY THE CENSORS?

CONTRIBUTED BY THE STAFF:
2) In "Chemistry", the whole good-guy supporting cast appears at Bruce's wedding, including Jason Blood, Leslie Tompkins, Zatanna, Gordon, Lucius Fox, Mayor Hill, and even the "IN-GAGEMENT" girl from "Mask of the Phantasm".

3) Another appearance of Two-Face has been found on BTAS, in the episode "House and Garden", where that famous photo of Bruce Wayne and Harvey Dent shaking hands appears in Pamela Isley's photo album.

4) The captain of the boat in "Chemistry" was voiced by Ed Gilbert, who did the voice of the submarine captain in "Sub-Zero" and the black doctor tending to Arthur Reeves in "Mask of the Phantasm". (Mr. Gilbert would be best known for his voice of Baloo the Bear in Disney's "Talespin").

ANIMATED NEWS AND RUMORS

MOVIES
-Also it looks like BATMAN:THE ANIMATED MOVIE #3 is a definite YES!(woohoo!) - Boyd Kirkland says that there are no potential plot outlines available just yet.
-"Batman & Mr. Freeze: Sub-Zero" will air on the CARTOON NETWORK on November 21, 1998.
-"Batman: Mask of the Phantasm" will likely air on Kids WB sometime this season - no exact date has been given, yet.

COMICS/BOOKS
- BATMAN: ANIMATED, Written by Paul Dini and Chip Kidd, was due to hit stores back on Sept. 23, but, alas, is not on schedule. It will now be released on November 10, 1998. Reserve your copy NOW!
- Harley Quinn finally writes her tell-all book about the Joker in BGA#10 - which may very well carry over into #11! There's a big surprise in store...but we're not telling what it is!
-Rumors still seem to be flying about the Spoiler becoming Batgirl #2...but now with her baby? Hmmm...

ANIMATED SERIES'
-Here's a recap of all the known upcoming episodes this season (sorry, no Superman episodes were available):
- Three episodes (#110-112?) are being held back for the summer of '99. After that, there may be no new BTAS OR STAS episodes for quite some time, depending on how much in demand "Batman Beyond" is at that time.

- Plus some BATMAN BEYOND news... aside from findin' out what happened to Tim Drake and Dick Grayson it is very possible that we'll be introduced to Ra's Al Ghul and SUPERMAN(!) in the second season!
-Sadly, it looks like "Batman Beyond" will be delayed again; it won't be premiering until January 9, 1999. Ditto goes for the comic mini-series which ties in with the series.
- WB feels that "Batman Beyond" will be a huge success, so they've already planned 13 episodes for the series' second season.

OTHER BATMAN RELATED NEWS

Movie News
-Brendan Frasier (who played George in "George of the Jungle") is the latest name being tossed around for playing Batman in the next live-action movie. George Clooney is still tied to the project, so unless we hear he's been let go (which would be BIG news), he's still the front-runner for the role, again.
-I also recently heard that Patrick Swayze is being considered to play a gruffer Batman in a future film...but is it true? I just watched "Black Dog" (pitiful movie, IMHO), but I think he COULD pull it off, if need be. We'll see. This could just be more fan-dreams...we'll see...we'll see...

BATMAN: THE ANIMATED FIGURES
(by Kevin Smith)

"WITH A TIP OF THE HAT TO THE NEW DESIGNS..."

With episodes of The New Batman Adventures, came new toys. With the new art style and new characters, Kenner had the perfect excuse to release "canon" figures.
First, we had Crime Fighter Robin with Redwing Skyfighter and Mirror Image Decoder. This was a really good figure. Robin's cape was plastic instead of cloth, and fit much better to the figure. I loved how the inside of the cape was yellow, and the outside was black like in the cartoon. He had an excellent sculpt that was true to the show's design. The accessories are forgettable and regrettable, like nearly all the accessories made after it. The skyfighter came with a torpedo that was supposed to fire, but this was deemed unsafe, and so cards were sold with a shiny black sticker over the instructions on firing the torpedo. This was still deemed unsafe, I suppose, and so the figure was cancelled, only to be released mysteriously later - like I've found him several times within the last two weeks in stores.
The card art for the series was fair, and featured a completely new look. More city buildings that were a bit more gothic looking and an orange to white to blue background/sky are pictured. Also, this is the start where an adventure is chronicled on the back of the cards using all the figures in the wave and their accessories. (Except Batgirl is pictured, and she isn't a figure in the wave!) As an added note, the stories on the back of the cards don't necessarily involve the figure that is included.
Next is Crime Solver Nightwing with Radar Rocket and Magnifying Decoder. This is another great figure with dumb accessories. Nightwing's sculpt and painting is superb. I like his character design a lot, only I wish that the symbol on his chest was a little more like the design in the comic book. The card art is well done also, but again, Nightwing isn't featured in the episode on the back. One thing, though, is that he's a little hard to balance, but it's nothing a little persistence can't fix!
The Mad Hatter possibly marks the last figure done in the old style. This is a great figure. The sculpting is nice, and even though he wears a long overcoat, his legs are slightly movable. Along with a cane, he comes with Robotic March Hare and Mind-Control Transmitter. The rabbit is actually a kind of nice accessory, since the Hatter obviously needs some sort of hench-help. The colors are bright, and look great with a collection of old style figures. The card art is lacking on his face. I suppose it's due to the fact that and old style character is trying to be rendered in the new style by someone who isn't on the show. The best part about the card is that the episode on the back foreshadows three soon-to-be-made figures: the Joker, Two-Face, and Knight Glider Batman. This one can easily be found on shelves still.
Detective Batman is a welcome addition in light of all the ridiculous repaints that have come before him. He comes with Missile Flight Pack and infrared Lens Decoder. I like this Batman more than Combat Belt Batman, mainly because his cape is plastic, and his mood is a lot grimmer. This is a must-have for any collector. I would have preferred the prototype shown on the card with the more brown belt, as opposed to the glaringly bright yellow belt he comes with, but hey, that's what model paint is for. The card art is great too. My only gripe is that Batgirl is pictured, and not even offered as a figure in this line!
Also offered in this wave is the new Batmobile. Next issue, NEW Wave 2!

These are some of the best BTAS sites on the web at this time. Most sites are updated or have been recently and all are up and running.
If you've watched Batman on WB there's a fair chance you've watched Superman as well. This show has picked up 40% more viewers this past season thanx to Batman. This series is one of the most underrated shows on TV because it's stuck under Batman's (pun intended) shadow. There's one website that treats it as its own show and its a damn good website! I recommend all who have seen this show to check out this site:
