NY Times on Banned Abortion-Themed "Family Guy" Episode

The New York Times has taken a look at the way Fox has handled the Family Guy episode "Partial Terms of Endearment," which hinged on issues of abortion, but which Fox declined to air and which Adult Swim has no plans to run either. The article discusses how the episode was developed and eventually axed from the broadcast schedule, how it will make its way to a standalone DVD in September (and how Fox's home video wing will exploit it's "banned from TV" status), and even looks at how other TV shows have dealt with the topic, stretching back as far as a two-episode arc of Maude in 1972.

The Times' ArtsBeat blog has also run an excerpt of an interview with Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane about the episode that was used in the writing of the main article, where MacFarlane goes into a bit more depth about the path of the episode from its conception to its aborted TV airing and subsequent revival on DVD.
