Chinese master animator Te Wei passed away in Shanghai on Thursday, February 4, 2010, at the age of 95. The cause of death was listed as respiratory failure. The animator (also known as Sheng Song) had been a fixture of China's animation industry for several decades, minus a period of forced exile during the Cultural Revolution when officials criticized his work for decadence and not reflecting the class struggle. He was best known for his ink-and-paint style animation that imitated the paintings of Qi Baishi. His credits include several well-known feature films and shorts from the Shanghai Animation Film Studio, including Havoc in Heaven, "The Conceited General," and "The Cowboy's Flute."
