USA Today is reporting that the Berenstain Bears will be coming to movie theaters courtesy of Walden Media and director Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum). Levy stated that the movie will be a mix of live-action and CGI animation, placing the iconic children's book characters into the real world.
Elsewhere, the Hollywood Reporter states that the newspaper comic strip Marmaduke will be getting a similar hybrid movie, with Owen Wilson set to voice the title character, a Great Dane who will reportedly "navigate a volatile Mutts vs. Pedigrees turf war, woo the purebred of his dreams and overcome a fall from grace." Other actors named include Judy Greer, Lee Pace, and William H. Macy (live-action) and Fergie, Emma Stone, George Lopez, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Steve Coogan, and Damon and Marlon Wayans (voice-over). Tom Dey is slated to direct, and the movie has a June 2010 release date.
