Platypus Comix
• Before Venkman or Egon, before Jake or Eddie, there were the REAL Real Ghostbusters: the 1975 Saturday Morning show by the same title that had no relation to the 1984 movie! The Ghostbuster name was originally worn by two bumbling fools and a man in a gorilla suit? Now that's scary!

Jean MacCurdy Steps Down
Rembrandt
Mon., Mar. 19, 2001 15:36

Having declared her intention for some time to take a less active role, Jean MacCurdy has stepped down from her position as president of Warner Bros. Animation (WBA). On March 14, she called together the newly combined feature and TV animation staffs in the Sherman Oaks, Calif., studio to let them know about her decision before official word of her successor comes next week. MacCurdy will maintain an office with an assistant at the studio and serve as a consultant. Staffers speculate that an AOL executive will take up the helm.

MacCurdy joined the TV animation unit in 1989 after serving as a production executive at Marvel Production, Hanna-Barbera and had served Warner Bros. Cartoons as director of animation programming in 1979, and eventually VP and general manager until her departure in 1983. She soon transformed WB Animation into a multiple Emmy Award-winning powerhouse and helped launch Kids’ WB!, The WB Television Network's five-year-old children’s programming service, where she was responsible for the creation, development and production of new TV animation. Until recently she served as president, programming, Kids’ WB! Some of these series include: Steven Spielberg Presents Animaniacs, Steven Spielberg Presents Tiny Toon Adventures, Steven Spielberg Presents Pinky & the Brain, Batman, Superman, DexterŐs Laboratory, Cow and Chicken and The Powerpuff Girls.

Tom Ruegger, one of the key creative and production executives on many of these shows, became less involved in development and operations at WBA, and has pursued new projects with new companies, setting up his own production entity. MacCurdy recruited him from Hanna-Barbera to join her in 1989.
