Cartoons aren't just for kids. That's what Turner's Cartoon Network
hopes to prove with "Adult Swim," a new three-hour animated block
aimed at an adult 18-34 year demographic, which it will launch September
2, network officials said today. "Adult Swim" will air Sunday and
Thursday night from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. ET. The block will consist of
new episodes of its original animated series "Space Ghost Coast to
Coast" along with five other series that will run on a rotating basis.
Series will include new episodes of "Home Movies" about an awkward
third grader named Brendon Small, and "Sealab 2021," an update of
an Hanna-Barbera production about an undersea city. The futuristic
cartooon will feature the voice of actor Erik Estrada of "CHiPs" fame.
Cartoons in "Adult Swim" will come with a either a TV-PG or TV-14
rating. The block is aimed at Cartoon Network's sizable adult audience.
"Almost one-third of our viewers are adults over 18, so it's a natural
extension of our progamming to create new shows specifically for an
adult audience," Cartoon Network President Betty Cohen said.(from
