To paraphrase Dave Reynolds, artist of ShadowGirls on the amount of work being done: "I do about 110 full color pages a year, but doing 200 black and white, graytoned in a matter of months...is just borderline "You've looked at Cthulhu."

More Powerpuff Girls Rumblings
Gookie
January 29, 2001 9:55

More rumors have surfaced regarding the possibility of new Powerpuff Girls episodes beyond Season 4:

1) There will be no new voice actors on the TV show. All of the episodes have been recorded with the existing cast.

2.) There will be no Season 5. The last episode will air in June, 2001

I have looked into both rumors and found the first to be true, and the latter to be entirely false.

To clarify the rumor, a message allegedly from Craig McCracken(creator of The Powerpuff Girls) was relayed by a fan to the message board at PPG World stating the following:

The show is not ending. In 1998 Cartoon Network ordered a total of 4 seasons which we will be finished with in June. However due to the success of the show I have been unofficially told by Cartoon Network that I can continue making the show for as long as I want to. But at this point in time we are not going to begin a new season till the movie is completed. Afterwards the show will resume production for an undetermined number of seasons.

This was confirmed in a message I received from a cast member, who said, "They have enough episodes in the can right now, so we'll record the feature, probably in April or may, then start on a new season toward fall."

"Will there be more than 5 seasons? If the movie is a big hit, then you can count on about a 10 year cycle for such a show, from first episodes through a couple theatrical features, then a couple direct-to-video features, then cancellation to make room for the next Big Thing. probably 7 or 8 seasons of shows, in all."

And as an addendum to the cast negotiations, Craig McCracken himself posted to the powerpuff. com message board saying, "The figures quoted in Hollywood Reporter were incorrect, The offer was neverless than scale. Hollywood Reporter contacted Cartoon Network to "fact check" this info but when it came time for press they happend[sic] to leave out CN's side of the story. Go figure. [And] for the record, we're only making one movie."

In related news, Cartoon Network will be airing 3 brand-new episodes of PPG at on February 9th: "Power Professor," "Meet the Beat-Alls"and "Moral Decay". [See Cartoon Network's Schedule for program times.]

Additionally, 2 new PPG titles are being released on video April 3,2001: BoogieFrights and TwistedSister. Barnes & Noble's Daniel Weizmann reviews"Boogie Frights" as "a great collection of Powerpuff magic, combining four televised episodes with one that was never aired."

The video includes the following episodes and extras:
  • "Boogie Frights"
  • "Slumbering With The Enemy"
  • "Rowdyruff Boys"
  • "Ice Sore"
  • "Helter Shelter"
  • PPG music video performed by "all-female Japanese pop sensations Shonen Knife"
  • Sneak peek at Cartoon Network's new "Samurai Jack"
  • A "Courage the Cowardly Dog" bonus cartoon
These two video releases give a better idea of what episodes will be included on the PPG DVD "The Mane Event" also due for release on April 3. According to dvdplanet.com, this third PPG DVD title will be 130 minutes long and will include such features as "audio commentary on 2 episodes, interactive games; PPG video biographies; two never-before-seen episodes; and creator Craig McCraken's first Powerpuff Girls cartoon."
