'Powerpuff Girls' Cast Negotiations Not Over
Gookie
Tues., Feb. 6, 2001 7:48

I'm sorry to report that the news reported by several media sources that the entire cast of the Powerpuff Girls had reached a successful contract agreement with Cartoon Network... was premature.

As I mentioned in the the previous article published here at Toon Zone on 1/25, after the lead voices ended their negotiations, a second one began for the supporting cast.

As of Monday 2/5, these negotiations are still underway. I received a message from one of the supporting cast members early this morning who stated the following:

I haven't signed ANYTHING. Neither has any other member of the "second tier" of the PPGs., as far as I know. I'll let you know when I do.

It's not over yet, friends.

I do believe that the supporting cast will be able to reach a fair agreement too, simply because only 2 agencies were known to have agreed to participate in the recasting. However, within those agencies, many of the actors have declined to even audition to do soundalikes for the voices created by their peers. This, combined with the media pressure and support of the fans is what helped "the girls" to get a fair deal.

But just because the news has been misreported elsewhere doesn't mean we can assume it's entirely over and that we "won". For the record, only the negotiations for the 3 lead actors were successful - that would be for Catherine Cavadini (Blossom), Tara Strong (Bubbles), and E.G. Daily (Buttercup).

Let's let Cartoon Network know that the supporting cast is just as vital to the show's success.

Write via e-mail to Powerpuff@cartoonnetwork.com (official PpG e-mail address) or ToonNet@aol.com (official Cartoon Network e-mail address), or you can send it via CN's Feedback page:

In related news, a representative from Warner Home Video has offered additional details on what will be included on the upcoming PPG releases for the VHS Twisted Sister and the DVD The Mane Event.

One of the never-before-seen episodes included on the Twisted Sister video is entitled "Power Lunch". [A description will be available shortly.] The video includes 4 other PPG episodes, and a bonus cartoon - an episode of "Dexter's Laboratory", as well as a PPG music video featuring Shonen Knife and a sneak peek at Cartoon Network's new series "Samurai Jack".

A list of the titles for The Mane Event DVD are not yet available; however, we should be able to determine what it will include when we have the full details on the "Twisted Sister" video shortly. One thing that the WHV representative did mention that hasn't yet been reported is that one of the extra features on the DVD will be the ability to view at least one episode in "alternate angle versions". Furthermore, according to my source, of the two commentaries included as bonus features, at least one of them will be rather unique in that the commentary will be provided by... The Mayor and Mojo Jojo!

[This has not yet been entirely confirmed, but the WHV rep said that according to the information given, the Mayor and Mojo Jojo will be providing commentary.]

A press release from Warner Home Video for both VHS titles ("Boogie Frights" and "Twisted Sister") and "The Mane Event" DVD will be published later this week.
