The Queen and the Joker

If there are Dairy Queen restaurants where you live, be sure to pick up one of their free coupons for $2 off either the video or DVD release of "Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker". It's a manufacturer's coupon also sponsored by Coca-Cola and doesn't expire until 1.31.01.

The coupon mentions a "Trip or Treat Scratch & Win Game... a chance to win the ultimate trip for four to Warner Bros. Studios and other cool prizes when you purchase a Coca-Cola product". Unfortunately, the Dairy Queen I got my coupon from had no details on this contest.

Announcing Annie

Warner Bros Animation did not win in any of the categories it was nominated for in the ASIFA-Hollywood 28th Annual Annie Awards. It was Disney/Pixar's "Toy Story 2" that largely carried away the accolades. "Batman Beyond" was slighted in the "Daytime Animated Television Program", losing to Disney's "Mickey's Mouseworks". And "Animaniacs: Wakko's Wish" lost out to Disney's "An Extremely Goofy Movie" in the "Animated Home Video Production" category and again to "Toy Story 2" in the "Music in an Animated Feature Production" category. (Though I won't attempt to argue that the music for A! could compare to the quality of TS2. It was good, but it wasn't *that* good.)

However, some Cartoon Network-related programming did receive a few awards:

Outstanding Achievement in An Animated Special Project
"The Scooby Doo Project" Cartoon Network

Outstanding Individual Achievement for Production
Design In an Animated Television Production
- John R. Dilworth - Courage The Cowardly Dog - "A Night at the Katz Motel"

Outstanding Individual Achievement for Voice Acting By
a Female Performer in an Animated Television Production
- Christine Cavanaugh As the voice of Dexter - Dexter's Laboratory "Ego Trip"

And receiving the "Windsor McCay Award":
"Norman McCabe: With a career spanning more than sixty-five years, Norm McCabe has worked for many animation studios, including Hanna-Barbera, Filmation, DePatie-Freleng, Marvel and Warner Bros. Television Animation, but he is perhaps best known for his tenure as animator and director at the Leon Schlesinger Looney Tunes Studio in the 1930's and 40's."
