  • Click here [no longer available] for the press release announcing the addition of Pokémon to the Kids' WB lineup in February. For more info on the incredible ratings juggernaut that Pokémon has become, read this article [no longer available]. Similar information also appeared in this Comic Book Continuum article.

  • Half a dozen people have e-mailed me saying that the Green Lantern episode of Superman will air on February 6th. You can read about it in this article from The Comic Book Continuum.

It seems that Kids' WB will not be making a fall season announcement for a few more weeks, but some news on the 1999-2000 season is already becoming available...

  • Kids' WB is so happy with Batman Beyond's ratings that they have ordered a second season of 13 episodes, according to this press release [no longer available]. Also, an article in issue #259 of Starlog magazine interviews Batman Beyond producer Alan Burnett, and tells us what we can expect from the show in its second season, including explanations of past events and some villains who may return. (Thanks to Gookie for this info)
  • According to issue #90 of Wizard magazine, Batman/Superman producer Alan Burnett says that a Legion of Super-Heroes show is currently in development, possibly for next season if Kids' WB okays production (assuming that Kids WB even likes the idea). For more info... buy the magazine! (Thanks to Gookie for this info)
  • This short bit of info appeared at Electronic Media (thanks to Jeff Harris for the info)

"Pokémon" on Kids WB Saturdays: Kids WB announced that it has picked up rights to the popular syndicated kids series, "Pokémon," which will air as an afternoon strip for fall 1999. Kids WB will also start airing original episodes of the series on Saturday mornings next month.

  • If you don't read the alt.tv.animaniacs newsgroup, then you missed this message from producer Tom Ruegger regarding the executive screening of the Animaniacs movie "Wakko's Wacko Wish":

"The reaction to the "Animaniacs" movie by the Warner executives can be summed up best by Bob Daly, who said succinctly at the end of the screening: "It's terrific. It's absolutely terrific." So, now the movie goes into test screening land. An audience will be recruited and then quizzed after the screening. All this will happen in the next few weeks, I'm told. In L.A., I believe. So, while it's no slam dunk, the reaction is positive and the possibilities for a theatrical release are being explored. Thanks to all who asked and sent words of support."

There's also a discussion of the movie going on at Ain't it Cool News, on two different pages: here and here. And there's also a story on the movie from The New York Post, which you can read here [no longer available]. Thanks to E. O. Costello for much of this info.
  • It looks like Nickelodeon will soon stop airing Tiny Toons and Looney Tunes, and both of those shows will be moving to Cartoon Network. Read the story from Variety [no longer available]. Thanks to Vince for the link.

January 16, 1999

  • How did the weekend premiere of Batman Beyond do in the ratings? Click here to find out from the Comic Book Continuum, and click here to read an official press release from WB.
  • It's probably too late now, but there's a special Batman Beyond day being held at WB Studio Stores today. Click here for more info, again from the Comic Book Continuum.
  • If you enjoyed the "Mad Love" episode of Batman, you should read the original award-winning comic book by Paul Dini and Bruce Timm upon which the episode was based. You should be able to find it at any decent comic book store, and also on the books page.
  • When is the next new episode of Histeria? Producer Tom Ruegger fills you in...

"Sat. Feb. 6. The History of Flight / aka First in Flight / aka Tribute to Flight.   Hosted by Orville and Wilbur Wright, who have a look and sound that might remind some of Abbott and Costello, and yet they sing songs a bit like The Smothers Brothers.   Three major cartoons: "The Wright Stuff," "First In Flight," and "The No Parking Zone."  It's our longest show to date.  It's too long even with no main title.  It's over a minute long.  Hope WB will air it as is, since I don't think anything more can be cut."
  • Men in Black fans! Discuss the MIB at the MIB Message Board [no longer available].

Revised items from last week:

  • Starting the weekend of January 16th, Kids WB will be will be combing five comedy series (Animaniacs, Pinky & The Brain, Pinky Elmyra & The Brain, Sylvester & Tweety, and Bugs 'N' Daffy) into one giant variety show each weekend, apparently called "The Cat and Birdy Warneroonie Pinky Brainy Big Cartoonie Show".. Instead of the usual 30 minute episode of Pinky, Elmyra & The Brain, then the usual 30 minute episode of Sylvester & Tweety, and so on, there would be segments from each WB comedy series shown over the course of 1 & 1/2 hours. Histeria is not part of this and will remain in its current time slot. If you don't quite understand, here is the lineup for the first show:

    1. "The Fifty Karat Furrball" - Sylvester & Tweety Mysteries
    2. "Boobs in the Woods" - Bugs 'N' Daffy
    3. "Cute Little Alienhead" - Pinky, Elmyra & The Brain
    4. "The Kid in the Lid" - Animaniacs
    5. "At the Hop!" - Pinky, Elmyra & The Brain
    6. "I Gopher You" - Sylvester & Tweety Mysteries
    7. "Bingo" - Animaniacs
    8. "Ballot Box Bunny" - Bugs 'N' Daffy

New segments of PE&B and S&TM will likely be thrown in for the next few months.
  • This is the Kids' WB weekend lineup starting January 16th (times may vary in your area, of course):

    8:00am: The New Batman/Superman Adventures (60 min.)
    9:00am: Men in Black
    9:30am: Batman Beyond
10:00am: The Big Cartoonie Show (90 min.)
    11:30am: Histeria
