Why was The Last of Us Part II absent from Sony’s E3 press conference? Does developer Naughty Dog at last have some answers? A new trailer with over two minutes of cutscene footage made its debut today during Sony’s presentation at Paris Games Week.
Fair warning before you jump into this: the trailer is graphically violent. And I don’t just mean gore happens….I mean the goings-on are hard to watch. Before the scene ends you’ll witness a hung woman strangling another woman to death with her legs while in the process of being strangled herself. Fortunately, we’ve been informed that none of these people are Ellie.
Sony released a second video after the conference was over. Neil Druckmann, creative director at Naughty Dog, says in the video that the studio didn’t want to release anything on Last of Us Part II until the entire team was working on it….until now, a good chunk of them have been putting together Uncharted: The Lost Legacy.
Druckmann says what they learned from the Uncharted games on PS4 will help them push The Last Of Us Part II to greater graphical fidelity, possibly creating the prettiest game the PS4 has seen yet (the original Last Of Us was one of the most gorgeous games on the PS3).
The original Last Of Us was about more than just its central characters, so rather than give people “a new puzzle piece” featuring Joel and Ellie, Druckmann made the decision to show off some of the side characters. “As for as who these characters are, what their conflict is, where this takes place, WHEN this takes place…I’m gonna leave it up to the fans for them.”
The Last Of Us Part II is currently under development at Naughty Dog with no specific release window.
