What does Disney plan to do after the current Star Wars trilogy wraps its storyline with Episode 9? Will they simply keep going to Episode 10, or will they continue making prequel spinoffs?
Surprisingly, we got a clear and definite answer today from Disney as to what they plan to do — before two-thirds of the current trilogy have even come out. Rian Johnson, who directed the film about to be released, has been given the honor of developing an entirely new trilogy of Star Wars films — in a galaxy far far away from what we’re used to.
The Skywalker family and all that has to do with them will not be involved. Instead, press material says these new movies will “introduce new characters from a corner of the galaxy that Star Wars lore has never before explored.” Free from the shackles of continuity that have bound Star Wars stories, the possibilities are endless and make us VERY hopeful for the future.
Now that the news is out there, we couldn’t have put it better than Rian himself on Twitter: “Obviously I hope you like The Last Jedi. But man, now I REALLY hope you like The Last Jedi.”
