For most sports video games, a player has to play as another player, but NBA 2K15 from 2K Games is changing that with its 3D face-mapping technology allowing a player to put their face on a player who can then play in the video game. The technology allows cameras on either the Sony PlayStation 4 or Microsoft Xbox One consoles to digitally map a player’s face then realistically recreate that for the player in the video game. For the present, the technology is only available for 2K’s NBA game but is expected to be added to future games for baseball, hockey as well as its “BioShock” and “Borderlands” franchises.
“NBA 2K15” is currently scheduled to be released on October 7, 2014.
