Miyazaki & Company Set to Purchase Studio Ghibli
As was previously reported by Toon Zone, Studio Ghibli is separating from its parent company. Variety now reports that Spirited Away director Hayao Miyazaki and a group of investors are set to buy Studio Ghibli from Tokuma Shoten Publishing Co., according to AWN. Top Ghibli employers are seeking between $96 million and $144 million to buy out the rights to all past Ghibli productions.
In 1985, Studio Ghibli was established as a subsidiary of Tokuma, but due to financial problems at Tokuma, the studio became a division of the bigger firm in 1997.
