Microsoft Axes Xbox Entertainment Studios

by on July 17, 2014

Last year, after veering away from their core gaming audience with the introduction of a next-generation console [Xbox One] that focused on entertainment rather than gaming, Microsoft finally threw in the towel on the entertainment portion of that equation by announcing today that they would be shuttering their Xbox Entertainment division as part of their massive layoffs that saw more than 18,000 lose their jobs. Video game-themed productions such as “Halo: Nightfall” and the Halo television series will continue as originally planned but new, original productions will be scrapped as part of the discontinuation of Xbox Entertainment Studios.

The closure of Microsoft’s Xbox Entertainment Studios will not affect Xbox apps nor interactive sports content.
