by on September 4, 2012

Actor Michael Clarke Duncan passed away on Monday, September 3, 2012, at the age of 54 due to complications from a heart attack he suffered on July 13. The 6-foot 5-inch actor worked a number of jobs (including ditch digger, bouncer, and stripper) before moving to Los Angeles to become an actor. He first worked as a bodyguard to stars, including Will Smith, Jamie Foxx, and Martin Lawrence, which led to small roles that usually exploited his size and booming baritone voice. A friendship with fellow cast member Bruce Willis during filming of Armageddon led to Duncan’s casting in Frank Darabont’s The Green Mile, where he played a prisoner convicted of the rape and murder of two girls in Louisiana in 1935. The role led to a Golden Globe and an Academy Award nomination.

Duncan had many voiceover roles in animation as well, with the most prominent being recurring parts on Family Guy, and roles in the first Kung Fu Panda movie and both Brother Bear movies. He had guest roles on numerous other shows, including Minoriteam, 2003’s Spider-Man series, Static Shock, The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, and Loonatics Unleashed.
