Michael Ansara, Actor, 1922 – 2013

The Hollywood Reporter reports that actor Michael Ansara passed away on July 31st at his home in Calabasas after a prolonged battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was 91.

Ansara was born in a small village in Syria to American parents. He was known in the TV westerns Broken Arrow and the Rifleman spin-off Law of the Plainsman playing Native American characters. He was best known for playing the Klingon warrior Kang in three different Star Trek series. His other TV credits included Lost in Space, The Virginian, I Dream of Jeannie, and as Kane on Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. His film roles include The Greatest Story Ever Told, The Robe, The Comancheros, and It’s Alive.

Ansara’s best-known voice work was as the voice of Mr. Freeze on Batman: The Animated Series; other roles included voicing The Ancient One in the Marvel Comics direct-to-video animated movie Dr. Strange and General Warhawk in Rambo: The Force of Freedom.

Ansara was once married to former I Dream of Jeannie star Barbara Eden.
