"Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa" Dominates Overseas Box Office
DreamWorks Animation’s Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa has received a warm reception from overseas audiences according to Variety, which reports that the movie took in $50.2 million this past weekend in 35 markets. Bolt, which will not hit most overseas markets until January, earned $9.5 million in 9 markets, while WALL-E took in $5.6 million, with nearly all of that amount coming from its Japanese launch. Domestically this past weekend, Bolt took an estimated $9.7 million in its third week of release, placing it in third behind Four Christmases and Twilight for a cumulative $79.28 million, while Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa took in an estimated $5.1 million for a total of $165.68 million.
