LA Times on What "Bolt" Means for Disney; Theaters Balk at "Bolt" Preview

The Los Angeles Times has published an article on how all eyes in the industry are on Disney’s Bolt (free registration required) to evaluate the success of the Disney-Pixar merger and see whether Walt Disney Feature Animation can begin to reclaim its past glories. The article details the history of Bolt, including story changes from Pixar’s John Lasseter and the departure of its original director Chris Sanders, and also notes the culture clash that has sometimes resulted in the post-merger world.

Elsewhere, the Times‘ movies weblog notes that several theater chains are balking at showing a 6-minute preview of Bolt ahead of Beverly Hills Chihuahua, saying that the extended preview reduces the number of screenings they can do in a day and also cuts into the advertising revenue they can raise by running ads of their own. Disney categorized the preview as a short film rather than an advertisement.
