LA Times on the Hard Sell of "The Princess and the Frog"

by on September 15, 2009

The Los Angeles Times took note of the publicity push Disney is planning for The Princess and the Frog, its return to feature-length hand-drawn animated movies and the first animated movie to star a black princess (free registration required). The push, which began this past weekend at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, CA (read Toon Zone’s coverage here), will ultimately include the unprecedented step of opening the Disney studio’s doors to the public and a full-scale merchandising blitz, while the obstacles to the movie’s success include the increasingly lower age that girls are losing interest in Disney Princesses and the persistent belief that audiences prefer CGI over hand-drawn animation.
