Imagi Temporarily Halts Production on "Astro Boy"
Imagi Animation Studios has confirmed to Anime News Network that they have temporarily halted production on the Astro Boy CGI animated movie. President Erin Corbett stated that animators at Imagi’s Los Angeles office were instructed not to come to work on Monday, while animators at the Hong Kong office were already planning to take the off for the Chinese New Year holidays. She also added that the rest of the company, currently developing a Gatchaman adaptation and another movie titled Tusker, is continuing to work as normal this week.
Earlier reports of a funding deal to allow Imagi to continue daily operations are apparently still in play, but the new line of funds will not become available until the deal closes which will be on February 3, 2009 (barring any delays). Until new funding comes in, the company was obligated to stop production on Astro Boy.
