IDW to Reprint "The Maze Agency" in November
IDW Publishing will be releasing a trade paperback in November collecting Mike W. Barr’s comic book series The Maze Agency. The series centered around private eye Jennifer Mays and amateur sleuth Gabriel Webb with each story presenting a “play fair” mystery, where all the clues necessary to solve the case are presented to the reader during the story.
The Maze Agency is also notable for introducing a young Adam Hughes to the comic book industry. Hughes went on to do artwork for DC’s Justice League International and Star Trek licensed comics, Image’s Gen 13, and Dark Horse Comics’ Ghost. He is currently one of the top comic book cover artists, with his work gracing the covers of DC Comics’ Catwoman.
The series moved across several publishers over its run, beginning at Comico in 1988. Comico’s financial difficulties forced a move to Innovation, which published the series from 1989 to 1991. The Maze Agency was last published in a three-issue mini-series by Caliber Comics from 1997 and 1998.
According to IDW’s Chris Ryall, the 156-page trade paperback will contain issues #1-5 of the series, plus the #0 ashcan and all covers. All stories are written by Mike W. Barr with artwork by Adam Hughes and Rick Magyar. The book will retail for $24.99 and is currently available for pre-order from Amazon.com.
