Hollywood Reporter Posts First Look at Guillermo del Toro-Produced “The Book of Life” Concept Art

by on February 26, 2014

The Hollywood Reporter has posted two pieces of concept art from The Book of Life, an upcoming animated feature film from Fox Animation and Reel FX Studios (Free Birds), co-written and directed by Jorge Gutierrez and co-produced by Guillermo del Toro. The Book of Life is based on the Mexican Day of the Dead holiday, about “a young man named Manolo who is torn between what he wants to do (play guitar and win the heart of the girl of his dreams) and what his family wants him to do,” and travels across three different worlds to find his way through the world. Channing Tatum and Zoe Saldana headline a cast which also stars Danny Trejo, Ice Cube, Christina Applegate, and Diego Luna. In the article, Gutierrez expresses his disappointment that animated features never look like the art in the “Art of…” books, and promises that, “Our ‘Art of’ book is going to look exactly like the movie. And every artist poured their heart and soul into that idea.”

The Book of Life is set for release on October 17, 2014.
