Hollywood Reporter on China’s Bid for Japan’s Success in Animation

by on August 16, 2010

The Hollywood Reporter has covered this year’s Asian Youth Animation and Comics Contest, held in Guiyang, China, attracting “jurists, speakers, panelists and other participants from more than 26 countries and regions, including the United States.” The event is incorporated into larger coverage of China’s bid to emulate Japan’s success at exporting anime internationally. As part of those efforts, China’s Ministry of Culture has given its blessing for numerous other similar contests intended to nurture a new generation of animation professionals to produce cartoons that can be exported to the United States in the same way that American animation is currently exported to Japan.
