by on September 13, 2005

Studio Ghibli’s Hayao Miyazaki received a lifetime achievement award at the Venice Film Festival on Friday, September 9. In statements to the press, he stated that he was unconcerned at the relatively poor performance of his movies outside of Japan and claimed he nearly skipped the award ceremony, feeling that lifetime achievement awards are for “old retired people.”
