Gene Hazelton, 1919 – 2005
Veteran animator and artist Wesley “Gene” Hazelton passed away last week, according to a report in Tom Spurgeon’s Comics Reporter weblog. Hazelton began working for Disney in 1939, working on films like Fantasia and Pinocchio, before moving to Warner Brothers in 1941. Later, Hazelton was a fixture of the Hanna-Barbera studios, working on both the shows and the tie-in comic books and strips. Writer Mark Evanier has posted a longer profile of Hazelton in advance of mainstream news media coverage.
