Nintendo may not have won much from last night’s Game Awards, but they didn’t provide much this year either. They did, however, make their presence known by debuting some new footage from the next Zelda game, Breath of the Wild, and playing it at the show. First they gave us this new trailer. (For some reason Nintendo is not allowing this video to be viewed at fullscreen unless you’re watching directly from their page. Grr.)
We get to see some things we haven’t before: namely, people! Up to this point Link has been depicted as the only humanoid elf-thing alive in a wilderness of wind, ruins and monsters. It’s now been confirmed Hyrule is not as desolate as that….there are communities, there are villages, and in some cases there are even flying ships. And who’s that at the end….could it be the princess named in the title from the chest down?
After we saw the trailer, reps from the Treehouse took to playing a newly revealed segment of the game that takes place in a lush forest. Again, if you want full-screen you’ll have to go directly to the page itself.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild still lacks a confirmed release date, but there are strong rumors it should be available either at the launch of the Switch or shortly after (hopefully at launch). It’ll be released for both Nintendo’s new console and its neglected older child, the Wii U.
