by on September 19, 2007

France will use the animated film Persepolis as its representative for the Best Foreign Language Film Academy Award. The movie is based on the graphic novel memoir of Marjane Satrapi about her life growing up during the Islamic Revolution of Iran. The film has drawn criticism from the Iranian government, but has been selected to close the New York Film Festival this year and will be released in the United States on Christmas Day in 2007.
