Fox Would Like To Uncancel King Of The Hill

by on August 8, 2017

Did you know the original 13-season run of King of the Hill generated 259 episodes over twelve years before its cancellation? But for Fox, is that enough?

The network mentioned to Variety this morning that they’re now interested in producing at least one more season of the long-running Texan toon created by Mike Judge and Greg Daniels. Dana Walden, Chairman and CEO of Fox Television Group, said “We have had preliminary conversations with Greg and Mike….I would like to explore that. We had a very preliminary conversation about that. Given what’s going on in the country, I think they had a point of view about how those characters would respond.”

King of the Hill was one of the few TV shows that lasted longer than a decade and yet never seemed to grow stale. One questions how much longer it could have kept that up, especially since one of its cast members (Brittany Murphy) is now no longer with us. Nevertheless, Dana “would like to revisit it.” She adds that she’s had just one conversation with the creators, but received no resistance. “They were both excited about it but they’re both very busy individually so it’s about finding time.”

Judge is currently involved with HBO’s Silicon Valley while Daniels is busy with FX’s People of Earth. They’re talented people and Judge succeeded in creating a memorable extra season for Beavis and Butthead in 2011. I would only be optimistic about the return of KOTH if the people who made it good expressed a desire to come back. Fortunately, it sounds like they have.
