Scene: Dakota Jamison’s office at the D.E.O. Jamison is behind her desk, two piles of manila folders in front of her. One pile is shorter than the other is. She finishes reading one and puts it on the shorter pile. She pulls off the top folder of the bigger pile. She opens it and reads it. It’s a file on Robin. After fifteen seconds of reading, she pulls out a red pen and ticks the front of the folder. She moves onto the next folder…
Teen Titans
Titans Together!
Text: A week later
Scene: Gotham City. The sound is that of a traffic jam. A silhouette crosses the screen. It lands on top of a tall building. The screen pans up to reveal Batgirl. She kneels down and takes out a pair of binoculars. The scene switches to her POV through the binoculars. There’s nothing happening.
Batgirl: Some master plan.
She puts the binoculars back. Just as she does this, an explosion rocks the city. It’s coming from the nearby power plant. Batgirl fires her Batgrapple and swings off.
(Cue Theme)
Scene: Gotham City Power Plant. Three figures, dressed in black, are hunched behind a van. The van is maybe five hundred meters away from the plant. A fourth person, also dressed in black, comes running toward them. When he is about fifteen meters from the van, the plant goes up in flames. The fourth person gets thrown to the ground from the force of the explosion.
Batgirl (off screen): I’d say that’s illegial.
As the downed arsonist tries to get up, a Batarang clunks him on the back of the head, and he passes out. Batgirl lands on the ground. She slams her left boot between the knocked out man’s shoulder blades.
Batgirl: You do realize arson is a jail-able offence.
The other three go for their pistols. They start firing off shots. Batgirl rolls out of the way and comes up in a crouch. She throws a Batarang at one of the gunmen. It clunks him right between the eyes and sends him sprawling. Batgirl somersaults and lands between the two gunmen. She kicks one in the stomach, the other in the groin. Both drop their weapons and double over in pain. Batgirl stands up and slams the groin-holding man against the van and cuffs him with a pair of Batcuffs. She then proceeds to cuff the other two. Suddenly, there is a click. Batgirl turns and sees the fourth arsonist, the one she knocked out, back on his feet. He raises his gun. As he’s about to pull the trigger, a bola ties him up from behind. He topples to the ground. Robin swings down on his Batgrapple line.
Batgirl: I had it under control.
Robin (sarcastically): Sure.
Robin turns and surveys the wreckage of the distant power plant.
Robin: Someone made a mess.
Batgirl: All part of the “plan”.
Robin: Huh?
Batgirl: Batman’s got word that a new gang is going around to different cities, destroying their power supplies. Metropolis, Central City, you name it. Supposedly, it’s part of a master plan. Good thing Gotham has three plants, not just the one.
Police sirens can be heard in the background.
Robin: What do you say we make ourselves scarce?
Batgirl: Good idea.
They both fire their Batgrapples and swing off into the night.
Scene: Van Nuys, California. A yellow and red clad figure swings on a grappling line above an apartment building. The person lands on the roof, and the camera pans up to reveal Flamebird.
Flamebird: Quiet night. Maybe I should’ve stayed home.
She looks around, and then examines her costume.
Flamebird: Maybe the suit’s too bright for night patrol. Maybe I should’ve stayed on day action.
Several flashbacks off newspaper headlines appear on screen, with lines such as:
MYSTERIOUS VIGILANTE FOILS BANK ROBBERS
FLAMEBIRD STOPS JEWELRY STORE BURGLARY!
FLAMEBIRD K.O’S LOCAL CRIME KINGPIN
An alarm rings out, breaking Flamebird out of her thoughts.
She casts her grappling line and swings off.
Scene: Jewelry shop. A masked man is filling a sack full of jewelry. He stops to examine a large sapphire studded headpiece. Flamebird swings down behind him unnoticed.
Flamebird: It wouldn’t look good on you.
The man spins around and looks surprised to see her there. He s******s.
Man: Hey, little girl. Wanna party?
Flamebird: No. I want you to put the loot back and give yourself up.
Man: Oh, I don’t think so.
He charges at her. Flamebird side steps and karate chops him to the back of the neck. He goes flat on his face. Before he can get up, Flamebird pulls out a pair of handcuffs and restrains him with them. She kneels down and pulls his mask off and holds him by his blonde hair.
Flamebird: What’s your name?
Man: James. James Wingwood.
Flamebird: Well, next time we meet Jim, I want you to show me some respect, all right?
Two police cars pull up. Flamebird lets go of Jim’s hair and ducks into an alley. She climbs up the fire escape until she reaches the roof. She then casts her grapple line and swings off.
Scene: Barbara Gordon’s apartment. Batgirl swings in through the window and takes off her mask. Scene cuts to Barbara coming out of the shower, a towel wrapped around her. The camera switches to her feet as she drops the towel and changes into her PJ’s. The camera then switches back to behind her as she gets into bed. She turns out the light, and goes to sleep.
Scene: Gotham City, daytime. Barbara’s apartment. Barbara is about to head off to another day’s work at the GCPD. She reaches the door, where she picks up her mail. There’s only one letter. It has a red circle with a black eagle inside it. It has a sign saying D.E.O across its chest. There is a thin gold circle around the red circle. There is in the gold circle, going around the red circle. It says DEPARTMENT OF EXTRANORMAL OPERATIONS. The sign of the D.E.O.
Scene: Cadmus Labs. Superboy is asleep in his bed. His alarm goes off. Superboy groans and shuts it off.
Superboy: Not a third time!
He gets up and goes into the bathroom. Scene cuts to him getting out of the shower, a towel wrapped around him. He changes into his Superboy costume. He brushes his hair, shaves, and heads out of his room into the mailroom. He looks in his pidgin-hole box. There’s one letter. It’s from the D.E.O, like Batgirl’s. He opens in and reads it. After fifteen seconds, he looks up in thought.
Superboy: A hero program for teens, eh? Nah, I’ll skip it.
He stops and scratches his chin.
Superboy: Although…
He thinks some more.
Superboy: Wonder Girl might be there…
Scene: Fawcett City. Captain Marvel and Captain Marvel Jr. are standing on top of a building.
Captain Marvel: So. Do you want to be a part of it?
CM Jr.: Yes. I think it’s the best way to learn how to be a hero.
Captain Marvel: I understand. You’ve made the right choice, Freddy. I hope you find what you’re looking for.
CM Jr.: Thanks…
The two heroes embrace. Then, they disengage and CM Jr. flies away.
Captain Marvel: Good luck, young boy.
Scene: Wayne Manor. Tim Drake has changed out of his Robin costume and is walking down the corridor towards the lounge. Alfred comes up behind him.
Alfred: Master Tim. You’re finally back.
Robin: Yeah. Just in time for the cartoons.
Alfred: Shall I get you anything, sir?
Robin: Chocolate milkshake would be nice.
Alfred: Very good sir.
He turns and walks towards the kitchen.
Robin (calling): Thanks Alfred!
He walks into the lounge and jumps onto the couch. He raises the remote and turns the T.V onto an episode of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. He starts to dance around, performing ninja moves (kicks, punches, etc.). Alfred comes into the room with Tim’s drink on a tray and switches the T.V off. Robin stops in surprise.
Robin: Hey! I was watching that!
Alfred: Terribly sorry to interrupt you’re…um…dancing lesson sir, but you have a letter.
He hands Tim a letter like Batgirl’s. Tim takes it and looks at it. His eyes widen.
Robin: It’s from the D.E.O!
Alfred: Then it must be important.
Tim opens the letter and reads it.
Robin: They’re recruiting a team of teenage superheroes. They want me to go to “Titans Tower” in New York City.
He quickly sculls his drink and then races to the Batcave.
Scene: The Batcave. Robin comes out of the costume vault in his Robin costume. Alfred comes down the stairs with some duffel bags.
Alfred: I’ve packed your essentials, sir.
He hands them to Robin.
Robin: Thanks Alfred.
He looks around.
Robin: But how will I get to New York? Call a cab?
Alfred (smiling): I have just the thing, sir.
He raises a remote control at a section of the cave wall. He presses a button and a panel of wall slides away to reveal a Batcycle, except it’s dressed out in red and black, with the “gold R inside a black circle” Robin emblem on either side of the cycle. It rolls forward on auto-pilot. It stops in front of Robin and Alfred.
Alfred: May I present the Redbird Batcycle. Armed with latest counter-measures, equipped with titanium armor, GPS tracking, videophone and a two-cylinder, 500 cc Grand Prix class engine with the “grunt” of a V8 engine.
Robin: Cool.
He opens the baggage compartment and places his bags inside the compartment. He closes the compartment and hops on. He turns his head to Alfred.
Robin: Thanks Alfred.
Alfred (smiling): My pleasure sir.
Robin floors the gas and rockets out of the Batcave.
Scene: Van Nuys, California. Flamebird, in her true identity of Mary Elizabeth Kane, picks up her mail from behind the door. There’s only one letter. It’s from the D.E.O. She reads it.
Flamebird: Titans, eh?
Cuts to Mary in her Flamebird costume coming down a service elevator to her garage, where her red Firebird Trans Am is stored. She climbs in and buckles her seatbelt. She pats the steering wheel.
Flamebird: I love this Flamemobile.
She presses a button on the dashboard, and the garage door swings open. She floors the gas, and roars out onto the road. The door swings shut behind her.
Scene: Crownes Pointe, Oklahoma. The Fly is flying through the air at a brisk pace.
Fly: I’m gonna be late…again.
He increases his speed. Finally, he gets to his favorite secret spot. As he comes in to land, his cell phone rings. He answers it.
Fly: Hello?
Mom (voice over): Jason! I’ve got some exciting news!
Fly: Yes mom?
Mom (VO): You’ve got a letter from the D.E.O, saying you’ve been recruited for the “Titans Program”. You have to go to “Titans Tower” in New York City, A.S.A.P.
There is a stunned silence.
Mom (VO): Jason?
Fly: Yeah mom?
Mom (VO): Get moving son! I’ll call school and cover for you. You go over to that tower and you show ‘em what a great kid I raised.
Fly: Yes ma’am! Oh and ma…I love you.
Mom (VO): I love you too son. Now go show ‘em what you got.
Fly hangs up and puts his phone away. He flies up and heads off.
Scene: Manchester, Alabama. Max Mercury’s house. Impulse is running around the backyard. Max comes out.
Max: BART! Stop running around the yard at 50 mph and come eat your dinner! You’ll catch something on fire!
Impulse: C'mon just a few more laps, Max? Please?
Max: Oh no, you don't! Should I go get Wally?
Impulse: No, sir. I'll behave.
He follows Max inside. They sit down and start eating.
Impulse: Goodie! Roast beef!
Max opens a letter from the D.E.O.
Max: Oh, by the way Bart, you got a letter from the D.E.O today.
Impulse looks up in surprise.
Impulse: The D.E.O? Must be important! What does it say?
Max reads the letter.
Max: It says that they have chosen you to join the “Titans” program at “Titans Tower” in New York City.
Impulse: New York City?! COOL! I can buy stuff, hang out…
Max: BART!
Impulse: Yes sir?
Max: Bart, do you want to do the program?
Impulse: Of course, Max!
Max: Then take it seriously!
Impulse: Yes sir.
Max: You better get packed.
Impulse gulps down his food and races upstairs. In five seconds, Impulse races back downstairs with his bags packed. He heads out the door.
Scene: Metropolis. The Daily Planet. Kyle Rayner is at his desk, sketching a picture of the Justice League, standing on a sunlit horizon. He sighs.
Green Lantern: I wish I could be like them.
The T.V in the room suddenly comes on, with a news flash.
Snapper Carr is reporting.
Snapper: We interrupt this program to bring you this urgent news bulletin.
The camera switches to a picture of the Metropolis Bank.
Snapper (VO): Several armed men have barricaded themselves inside the Metropolis Bank. It is believed they have hostages. Their intentions are unknown.
Camera switches back to Snapper.
Snapper: We’ll update you as the situation develops. This is Snapper Carr, for Channel 4.
The people in the room all burst into chatter. Perry White comes out of his office.
Perry: Lois! I want you down there now! This is too good an opportunity to pass up!
Lois: On my way.
She heads for the elevator.
Meanwhile, Kyle is running down the stairs. He stops next to a window. He opens it and jumps out. He raises his Green Lantern power ring and his clothes change into his GL suit. He creates a green glow around him and flies towards the bank.
Scene: Bank. The robbers are gathered in a room on the third floor. One is pacing the room, shouting something on the phone, while the others are guarding their hostages. One blonde haired woman raises her hand.
Woman: I really need the toilet.
Robber #1: Shut up!
GL (off screen): Let her go!
Green Lantern smashes through a window. The man on the receiver drops the phone and raises his pistol. GL fires a blast of energy at him, and the pistol gets knocked from the man’s hand. GL creates a green hammer and sweeps the robbers off their feet. He grabs their guns with the ring’s power and throws them out the window. He creates a cage around the robbers. He notices one is missing: the leader.
Scene: Outside bank. Around the back. The leader sneaks outside and hides behind some trashcans. He sees a S.W.A.T trooper sneaking up to the door he just came out of.
The camera focuses on the trooper. A gun comes up beside his head.
Robber: Wakey, wakey. Put it down.
The trooper drops his Heckler & Koch MP5.
Robber: Thank you very much.
He knocks the trooper out with a blow to the head. He picks up the MP5 and tosses the pistol away. The robber runs off.
Superman (off screen): Stop.
Superman lands in front of the robber. The robber raises his gun and fires. The bullets bounce off Superman’s chest. He snatches the gun and smashes it on his right knee. The robber turns to run, but is grabbed by a giant green hand. Green Lantern pulls him out front and drops him onto a squad car. Bewildered police officers look up.
GL: Here you go officers!
He flies off.
Scene: The roof of a clock tower in Metropolis. Superman and Green Lantern are talking there.
Superman: You did well today.
GL: Thanks.
Superman: Here.
He hands Kyle an envelope with the D.E.O sign on it. Kyle opens it and reads.
GL: The “Titans”?
Superman: A young hero training program in New York. I saw your name on the potential list. I put in a good word for you.
GL: Thanks, Supes.
Superman: I’ll cover for you at work. Good luck.
They shake hands. Kyle creates a green glow around him and flies off.
Scene: Cosmos, Colorado. Risk’s house.
Risk’s Mom: Cody!
Risk: Yeah?
Risk’s Mom: That letter from the D.E.O you’ve been expecting just arrived.
Risk: I don’t want to do it, but I’ve got no choice.
Risk’s Mom: You want to stay out of jail, don’t you?
Risk: Yeah.
Risk’s Mom: Then get to it!
She hands him to the letter, gives him a kiss on the cheek, and Risk is out the door in no time.
Scene: Queen Manor. Arsenal is in an air transport that will take him to New York. He looks down at Green Arrow and Black Canary. Canary’s eyes are glistening with tears of both sadness and joy. Even Green Arrow is shedding a tear. Arsenal waves to them.
Arsenal (to himself): I’ll be back.
Scene: Metropolis. The bank. The cops are cleaning up the crime scene, when a large meteor crash-lands on the road. Alien walkers, like those seen in Secret Origins, emerge from it. White aliens come out as well, firing their guns. The police shoot back.
Cop #1: Why aren’t they melting? The sun’s out!
More meteors crash-land, with aliens coming out.
Scene: Daily Planet. Snapper Carr is on T.V.
Snapper: In just under an hour, the aliens have conquered Metropolis. It seems that they have developed immunity to sunlight since their last encounter with Earth. But what’s even more disturbing is that the Justice League is missing.
The final shot is that of Metropolis from a distance, being overtaken by aliens.
Snapper (V.O): Without our world’s greatest heroes, what hope do we have?
