The Canadian bacon query...or, food for thought

I asked my ex, who is planning to move up that way from California (or as she calls her home state, "Cali-f***-nia") that question...and she make it clear that bacon is bacon whether here or in the frozen north. There is bacon and there is ham, which come from separate parts of the pig (I think) and are prepared differently. Whoever thought to call ham "Canadian bacon" was either a joker or a moron.
I also asked my roomate in college, a Chinese pre-med grad student, the same question about Chinese food. He calls it "food"...or refers to a particular dish by name, just as we do here in America with meatloaf or potatoes or cheese.
The real question is, why do they call them French fries when they were created in Belgium? It's like a midget using mouthwash...who would know?

I do know that in Great Britain they call French fries 'chips', and what we call chips they call 'crisps.'

    Even more confusing...

I explained to my mother once that in England cookies are called "biscuits". "So what do they call a biscuit?" she asked.
My mother can come up with some questions, lemme tell ya....

Ah, those wacky British. They're so onery that they actually refer to the "cookies" left behind by web browsers as "browser bisuits." Really.

Browser biscuits, browser biscuits, browser biscuits, browser biscuits.

    That wasn't so hard.

    Re: French Fries
I have no idea. Then why am I replying to this?

    Uh, I dunno.
And besides, most people look at this type of topic unrealistically. They are all under the apparent misconception tha--oh, wait. Is my post over? Ah, okay.
