Also today is the 11th anni of TTA.
I just found out that yesterday was the 8'th anniversary of A!'s debut, I'm sure several of you can remember that exact day. I'm sure one of us would have brought that up if not for the events of this week that have put milestones like that far behind us. Besides, I'm sure you all shared your stories about that last year or the year before that. Still, it's a important day in WB history and in ours, for it started the show that was one of our most talked about things before our dryspell on all things comedy on the WB. But that doesn't matter much now does it?
Also today is the 11th anni of TTA.
Of course it matters. Let's not forget that during the '40's, the cartoon departments @ the studios were still busy. Introduced during that time were Droopy, Red Hot, the Tex Avery Wolf, Tweety, Sylvester, Conrad, Beaky Buzzard, Babbitt & Catstello, Henery Hawk, Hubie & Bertie, the Granny prototype, Pepe Le Pew, Yosemite Sam, etc. Even in times like these, we need the release of things like cartoons, we need to laugh. In the words of Hawkeye Pierce, joking about it is the only way I can open my mouth without screaming. So let's keep talking about the toons; I certainly intend to. There's a lot of bad stuff out there, but let's save a place for the good stuff.
If you don't like your options, make another option.
I REMEMBER A!'s premiere! Which is impressive, considering I was only a casual fan of WB 'toons and a young kid at the time....the eppy was classic. The opening was one of the best I've seen, and the eppy that followed (Uh...Yakko as a king or pirate...so I forgot the eppy that followed, sue me) was VERY funny.
Ah, memories....and TTA. The first toon I was fanatical about, and I remember its premiere as well....AND the whole eppy too. For a long time I thought that pilot was a one-air deal, till they syndicated the show. The first eno****er between Babs and Buster is classic....

D'oh!! I forgot! And that's one of my favorite shows of all time, too...Originally posted by robert
I just found out that yesterday was the 8'th anniversary of A!'s debut....Ah, well. Thanks for the reminder, robert! Happy 8th, Animaniacs!
"Pinky, my parents...they're driving me insane!"
"Egad Brain, really? Ooh, well that kinda leaves me without much to do..."
Happy 8th Anniversary, A! =)
Happy 11th Anniversary, TTA =)
I remember the TTA debut, they actually aired the premiere in prime time. I thought, "Wow! This must be really good if they're airing the premiere in the evening." At that time, I felt that good animated shows were on a comeback.
I didn't see A!'s debut in '93. In fact, I didn't start watching A! until late '95, when they were on KidsWB.
I watched TTA on Fox for a couple of years, but for reasons I don't recall, I drifted. Therefore, I missed any Animaniacs fanfare in '93. I had heard of Animaniacs around that time, but I didn't know what to make of it. I swear Fox once put an ad for A! during a Sunday football game(possibly the first time I heard of A!, if that really aired on Sunday). So, little more than two years pass. At that time, Merrie Melodies used to air just before A! on this rather new thing called KidsWB. I'd watch MM, and when it was over, usually switch channels or such. So, one time I wasn't felling well, finished watching MM, didn't feel like channel surfing, leaving KWB on leading into A!. Despite how I was feeling, I managed to pick-up on the cleaver wittiness of this show, and remarkably grew into a fan of it rather quickly.
Egad! Didn't realize I was giving my life story.
And now, you know some of the story, NARF!

Why Brain? What do we want to do tomorrow night? Throw a slumber party?
I didn't have a TV when Animaniacs premiered. I hadn't liked the snippets of Tiny Toons I had seen, and seem to recall seeing an article on A! and thinking, "Great, now they're ripping off Goofy, and they don't even own him!"

1990: As I entered my sophomore year in high school, I had read during the summer (in a Time magazine advertising supplement) about TTA...I figured that it'd be worth looking at (figuring that it might be as good as DuckTales/the "Simpsons" :-) Thus, I watched the CBS special debut of TTA (along with a few family members), and we thought it was pretty hilarious. Thus, we tuned into TTA's initial syndicated run (which aired on the local Fox affiliate at the time, before Fox picked up the show), and soon became regular viewers....or at least I did. Probably wore out our 13" black-and-white TV set watching TTA after school...
Fade forward a few years to 1993: As I entered my freshman year of college, I'd read in the newspaper about some new show called A!. Also recalled the promos I'd seen on TV for this series (which erroneously led me to think that "that little blond girl and the dog" would be funny :-) and was wondering if three weird-looking dog-like characters with bizarre names ("Yakko"? "Wakko"?) could succeed (esp. after TTA). Vaguely recall tuning into the first few episodes, but with college and such, didn't have time to become a completely regular viewer, but did note the # of A! t-shirts I saw on campus (and the "Vote for Pinky and the Brain for student president" signs taped to the ground...it noted "help Brain take over the world". Which made me wonder "world? The opening theme says they want to 'rule the *universe*'"...not having yet seen the mice at that point.) By 1995, I'd probably seen plenty of A!...

...since the debut of Animaniacs and my birthday are the same day, I always considered it my greatest birthday present ever. In fact, I found myself thinking of the "Baghdad Cafe" short during all this, in which Yakko, Wakko, and--Slappy?-- (you had to be there) smacked around that whacky Iraqi Saddam Hussein. I know he had nothing to do with Tuesday's atrocities personally, but I think he relished them, and for my money that's the same bloody thing....![]()
Hey! I never noticed the fact A! and your birthdays were the same day, BELCH...nice to see you got a present you could enjoy everday!
Facsinating. Ah, the Animaniacs, great American patriots fighting for freedom...still, with all that's going on it's a scary new meaning...SAID BY DR.
