    Paul Rugg on Conan!

    Like This Thread!
According to our reliable friend Brian Cruz, Animaniacs / Freakazoid! writer / voice actor Paul Rugg is slated to appear on The Conan O'Brien Show tonight! Brian insisted that I make the announcement, so I get the blame if Rugg gets bumped. But there it is anyhow.

Ah...it was just suggested to me that Brian misheard the name of one Paul Rudd (who, upon my checking the IMDB, is featured in a Janeane Garofalo movie being released July 20...so that would make more sense).

I'll catch the show, since I watch Conan fairly regularly anyway. Doesn't look too hopeful, though.

Hey, it's not my fault! The upcoming guests were read by three black men in jewish regalia quoting Mark Twain! Seriously! Besides, the other guests are Reese Witherspoon and Brian Setzer, and that makes the show worth viewing anyway, IMHO.

Really! It's bad enough you mislead us, but you could at least come up with a better excuse. I've heard that one three times just since breakfast!

Yes, but not at all on-topic. Can't be eating up valuable Board space with off-topic Conan O'Brien guest lists, or Harl will murder us all!

Maybe you & me, as if you didn't have enough to worry about being dead because of that tiff with SL --- but not Brian; she likes Brian.

    Maybe you & me,
Are you posting off-topic Conan guest lists too, now?

as if you didn't have enough to worry about being dead because of that tiff with SL
Ha, I need not fear death! Lest you forget, my sentient friend, I am still technically dead. I just appear very alive. And act very alive. And talk very alive.

    My undertaker was quite skilled.

--- but not Brian; she likes Brian.
    Oh my gosh! ...Harley? Likes...Brian?

Come to think of it, yeah...I can see that. That explains a lot of things.

    Well, I'll tell you a secret. C'mere...

No, closer! I don't want everyone on the whole Board hearing this...

    Yeah. There.

    No, not *THAT* close!

    That's good.

    (whispering) Brian...likes...Harley...too. Really!

Say, you don't think there's some way we could get them together, maybe? They would make such a cute couple...

    Re: Rudd, not Rugg...

Paul Rudd has been on Conan before. That's when I made the very same misunderstanding. Troz.

BTW, has any other notable WB/WBA individuals made any apperences on late night talk shows?

I was thinking about Rob and Moe, Tress Macneille, Jess Harnell, etc.

Since you mentioned Bernadette Peters, any chance she'd mention what she did on A! if she has made an appearence on any show during or after A! ?

The one involving, was it a deep fat fryer @ McDonalds? Anyway, it was the cause of a poll being put up; Craig lost in the poll, which meant he didn't get any food, which meant he died. his punishment was to've sent him begging for forgiveness from SL, in a scenario reminiscent of a certain Holy Roman Emperor & a certain Pope @ Canossa.

    Late-night fright

Hasn't Cree Summer worked the late-night talk-show circuit? Plus there's her mike-melting TV/radio ads for prophalactics to consider....also, I recall seeing Julie "Marge Simpson" Kavner on some talk show once, but that was some time back.
So...wait...Craig is dead, yet alive? How Dantean. Reminds me of a portion of the ninth circle of Hell, where folks are so bad they simply drop out of their bodies while they're still alive and plummet straight into torment, while demons walk around up here wearing their skins. Is that the case here? Geez, I didn't think fast-food-related crimes were punished that all-fired severely....

Animaniacs did come up during a Peters appearance on early episode of Rosie O'Donnell's show, but only because O'Donnell wanted A! stuff. Greedy, greedy.

How was Rugg on Conan last night?

Gee, I don't remember that. How long ago was it? (The poll event, that is; not the Emperor/Pope debacle [well, actually I don't remember the Emperor/Pope debacle either, but that's to be expected since I wasn't involved {at least I don't recall being involved, and it seems likely I would have recollection of something of that sort, for I don't get to hobnob with royalty and religious leaders every day of the week (tho it does happen now and then, but usually only on Tues.-Thurs, and *very* occasionally on the weekends [those guys are generally pretty busy, after all, what with all their responsibilities {and it's not like I've got nothing to occupy my time either; these post-replies aren't going to write themselves.}])}])

Well, the Craig poll incident happened in the first days of this board & probably in the last days of the old one; I dunno about the latter as I haven't yet checked. Iirc Colin was the one who put up the poll, so you might ask hiim what it's all about.

As to Canossa, well, thereby hangs a tale. In 1075 a dispute arose between the Catholic Church & the un-Holy un-Roman un-Empire on various things, but specifically on lay investiture, whether the Pope or the Emperor had authority to appoint church officials in the Empire. In 1076 Emperor Henry IV (r. 1056-1106) convened a council at Worms, @ which he declared Pope Gregory VII (r. 1073-1085) deposed; Gregory reciprocated by excommunicating Henry & releasing his subjects from subjection to him. Well, that unleashed a civil war in Germany as numerous vassal states took Gregory @ his word. Henry realized that if he was going to keep his Empire he was going to have to make peace with Gregory, so in 1077 he went to the pope's stronghold @ Canossa in the Appenine mountains (hey, maybe Romey can get us an on-the-scenes report). Gregory kept him waiting, outside, barefoot, in the snow, for three days. Finally, he relented, when his authority had been established. Of course, as soon as he had that, Henry went back & put down the rebellions. Then he deposed Gregory again & installed his own (anti-)pope Clement III. But the damage had been done; for centuries afterward, for all practical purposes the popes were absolute rulers of all Europe. Then the Reformation happened, but y'all've seen that ep of Histeria. And all that has nothing to do with this, but I did @ the time see a parallel. Craig begging Sharklady for forgiveness (hey, it was Colin's idea, I think). I think that's about it.

Well, of course Sharklady doesn't remember it! Nftnat's got all his facts mixed up.

The notorious incident in question involved an Egg McMuffin, and Harley was the other party. After I lost the poll, I was fired from ToonZone (all of my Official ToonZone positions being revoked shortly thereafter), and wound up begging on Harl's doorstep for forgiveness. I apparently didn't get it, as I soon starved to death, as Nftnat so aptly notes. If any good came of all this, it was my death scene, which, if I do say so, was played to heart-rending perfection, and will go down as one of my finest moments.

Being dead isn't that bad. I get to lie in this tranquil blue pool all day on a float, looking at the gorgeous scenery, and drinking Slice. The only problem is, I can't get out of the pool, because it goes on forever. And I can't get off the float, because the water is so heavily chlorinated, my skin would melt if I just touched it. And they won't serve me anything but Slice, and they keep refilling the glass every time it's empty, even when I don't want anymore. And JFK Jr. keeps throwing things at me.

Incidentally, Henry IV is here by me now, and he says he wasn't actually asking for penance--having lost his source of income, he was begging door to door, and was asking the Pope for some pennies. But when Gregory restored him to his former position, he figured he may as well just swallow his dignity and keep his mouth shut.

And that's juuust what he did.

Actually, the words were mine...Colin just converted them into poll form. The wording ("begging at the doorstep, miserable and repentant, lonely and contrite," or whatever it was) was a reference to My Fair Lady, the musical version of George Bernard Shaw's Pygmaleon, the soundtrack for which just happened to be playing at the moment...you may be rather disinsterested to learn that that same evening, I went on to write a Minerva Mink fanfic (now up in the Archive), also containing a Pygmaleon reference!

This has been a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes life of Craig Marinaro. We now return you to your own lives, at the sound of the beep....

And speaking of My Fair Lady, in the classic A! fanfic You Are What You See by Kim "Yakko's Babe" Robarts, that movie was playing on the screen @ one point. The Warners did their thing to Rex Harrison, Yakko & Wakko utterly charmed Audrey Hepburn, & Dot frightened off Jeremy Brett, not necessarily in that order. For further details, go to http://home.att.net/~ltorrance01/stories/anmxlist.htm , courtesy of A! ng member Larry Torrance; or to http://wbtower.ashyre.com , courtesy of ng member Nikka Warner, formerly Ditzi Warner. And yes, she also links to this group's fanfic collection; she's trying to build links to all the fanfics old & new. Anyway, that particular fic is in over 30 parts, so you should know that the movie in question appears in parts 4-7.
