    AWOL in Italia...

    Like This Thread!
    Salve, amici!

Thought I'd start a thread with which to keep ya'll updated on stuff, whenever I have the chance. To kick it off, here's a sample of the destruction and chaos I've been spreading throughout the country along with my friend, Federica Warner...

    http://www.toonzone.net/romey/italy/orvieto.jpg

As you can see, we temporarily returned to the present. We were in desperate need of gelati, and found a lovely gelateria with all kinds of weird flavors such as ricotta and pine nut. The ricotta was sort of a twist on cannoli filling, sweetened with dried fruit. Veeery nummy. Pine nut wasn't bad either, and mixed well with the additional scoop of rasberry. So anyway, while we were still here in 2001, we wandered by this window... the rest is history.

More to come, later on. =)

    Ha-ha! Very cute pictures!

I wonder how many of the Italian folks will have any idea what those are?

Wonder how many American folks would have any idea, at this point. =X

Anyhow, I'm glad you're up to something productive (i.e., vandalizing public property)! Much better pasttime than doing reports about TREES...

Actually, Animaniacs and Pinky & the Brain are reasonably well known over here, maybe even relatively more than back in the US. Incidentally, that window was in the quiet streets of Orvieto, where we heard several people whistling the P&tB theme as we passed by (note the reflected shirt in the lower-left window). So that should answer everybody's questions. ;-)

And Craig? I'd hardly call that vandalizing public property. Really, the window was *that* much cleaner when we were done, and it looked a lot nicer than it had. IMO, it was a good deed! Now when we start chalking Roma... ;-)

Ehm, ehm... On a more serious note, you should see the real vandalism going on in Italy. It's sad what some people would do to ancient monuments and these beautiful cities... some people's fingers deserve to be cut off for it. Meanwhile, I feel that such innocent and fleeting works of public art such as ours are worth some respect, especially in comparison.

    Romey
--But none of that will compare to the magnificent piece of performance art in the sinking of Italy! Chaos and destruction everywhere! Whahahahaaaa!!! You'll never stop us! ::grin::

Ask the shop owner how much for replacing the glass so you can take the masterpiece with you.

    Today, store front windows.

    Tomorrow....ummm, revolving doors? Poit.
Why Brain? What do we want to do tomorrow night? Throw a slumber party?

    Hey, Mr. Italy

Those windows are absolutely incredible. You haven't lost your touch!!

I had someone once tell me that Italy is incredible and breathtaking and the food is to die for. I didn't believe her, because she was a witch, but it sounds like maybe she was right. I'm so glad you're having a good time!!

I'll email just as soon as I can. So much to tell you...

    Woo hoo!!!

    Salve!

Today at 2:30pm, Venice time, my team delivered our final project presentation to the city directors, a couple biologists, our professors, and other such important people.

When all was said and done, everyone was thrilled by our results, and the city decided that it would impliment our system for the management and maintenance of their public parks!

I think one of my partners, Zabe Premo, summed up the experience best:

What do you get when you put a CS major, a bio major and a physics major on an island with three computers, a tape measurer and a GIS program?

A new methodology for managing and maintaining the Venetian public trees and greenspaces.

The city of Venice has accepted our project and will begin using it shortly after we leave.

So yes, 3 college students have single handedly created the system which a major international city usues to care for its trees.
Cool, huh? Quite a major accomplishment. =)

Anyway, our work's not quite complete yet, as we still need to finish our report and pollish the interfaces for our database. But once Monday afternoon rolls around, I depart for Roma to hang out with my friend for a couple weeks. A well earned rest, for sure.

Holy moley. Well done, Romey! That's quite a feat. Surely, you'll return home to a hero's welcome! With the gathered masses never suspecting that your public park maintenence system is part of an intricate scheme to try and take over the world...

    I'm back!

    Salve!

Yes, Romey is finally back in the US! As several folks know, I returned on the 15th, but I've been waiting for the closure of my project (submission of final grades) before announcing my presence. My team got a well deserved 'A', but realize that the grade merely stands in recognition of the extensive work we've done... so any congratulations aleady given towards the accomplishments themselves are quite enough.

Anyway, since the last time ya'll heard from me, I've had a pretty darn good break, and pics will soon follow. Time to catch up on a few threads...

    Between Romey and Rocky--

--(she's on vacation there this week) Toonzone should be awash in tales of the land of Ceasar for days to come. Makes me feel like singing:
"Oh, the streets of Rome are filled with rubble,
    Ancient footprints are everywhere.
You can almost think that you're seein' double
On a cold, dark night on the Spanish Stairs.
Got to hurry on back to my hotel room,
Where I've got me a date with Botticelli's niece.
She promised that she'd be right there with me
    When I paint my masterpiece.

Oh, the hours I've spent inside the Coliseum,
    Dodging lions and wastin' time.
Oh, those mighty kings of the jungle, I could hardly stand to see 'em,
Yes, it sure has been a long, hard climb.
Train wheels runnin' through the back of my memory,
When I ran on the hilltop following a pack of wild geese.
Someday, everything is gonna be smooth like a rhapsody
    When I paint my masterpiece.

Sailin' 'round the world in a dirty gondola.
Oh, to be back in the land of Coca-Cola!

I left Rome and landed in Brussels,
With a picture of a tall oak tree by my side.
Clergymen in uniform and young girls pullin' mussels,
Everyone was there to greet me when I stepped inside.
    Newspapermen eating candy
Had to be held down by big police.
Someday, everything is gonna be diff'rent
    When I paint my masterpiece."
