    Just being fussy

For the record, those picture thingies that I'm the only one who hasn't bothered to get one yet are called avatars. And the captain from Star Blazers was Abitar. I think. It's been awhile since I saw SBs. Oh well.

You're not quite the only one.

I haven't put one up either, 'cause I don't know how to do it.

    Oh, that? Easy, actually.

First, find an avatar. I don't know how to resize a picture, but there's a ton of them out there in the Termite Terrace Board - do a search for "Avatar" under Thread Title. Any icon that's smaller than 75 x 75 pixels will do.

Save it to a floppy disk. You could link it, but if the link disappears, you have an ugly red X for an avatar.

    Got to the Control Panel

    Go to Edit Options

Go to Change Avatar (it's at the bottom)

Click the little hole "yes" if it isn't clicked already.

    Click "Browse".

Direct the "Browse" window to your A drive.

Click on the avatar file you want. When you do, it will appear in the space in your Web Browser.

    Hit submit.

    You're done.

    Good Luck!

    I'm in the same boat....

Inque kindly prepared one for me, but I couldn't load the buggardly thing. Something about modifying an .htm to .jpg...I don't get it. It's just as well, I suppose--once I set it up I'll see another pic and just have to have it, and the hell begins anew....

Belchie, right click on the picture and choose "Save Picture As..." This will set it up for you to save it as a .jpg, or a .gif, or a bitmap (don't do the bitmap.) Save it to your floppy and proceed as before.

Nope, it's Captain Avatar! How else do you think I found his pic on the Internet for my avatar? I typed in "Captain Avatar" in a search engine, and up came a bunch of Star Blazers sites! They all spell it Avatar too!

I don't have an avatar, either. I know how to do it, but I want to upload a file from my computer, and it's over 10240 bytes.

Hey, does anyone know how to kill some of those extra bytes? It's a JPG file.
And besides, most people look at this type of topic unrealistically. They are all under the apparent misconception tha--oh, wait. Is my post over? Ah, okay.

I'd be willing to help you out, or Bird Boy also offers his services. Either one of us can do it. I use Corel Photo Paint to get the pics down to the desired size.

if you have photoshop, you can lower the quality, or just change the color palette.

    I tried that...it's still about 32000 bytes.
