Unfornately, there's nothing TTA on DVD so far. I would think they could at release a special edition DVD of HISMV, but they may not have the stuff still to add as extras on it. With most DVDs having bonuses and easter eggs in them, I really doubt that they'd released a TTA DVD without them. Maybe we need to show WB that we are interested in a TTA DVD... too bad most places won't pay any attention to online petions. I'm merely ranting on right now... hehe... pay no attention to me.

I think I've said this before on another message board, but I'd kill for a TTA DVD box set. They could spread the entire series out across five disks in a nice, fold out case. Each DVD could be a picture disk.
    But as for extra features...
Well, a lot of disks get released without features at all. ( Especially here in Europe, the Region 2 Zone )
But if a TTA disk was to get extra features the following wouldn't go amiss.

Commentary track by the voice artists in character.
    Commentary track by the writers
    Pre-production artwork, storyboards etc...
Deleted scenes. ( Even if only in sketch form )
Behind the scenes shots of the voice actors at work.
Full TTA episode guide in text format
Web links to various TTA sites.
It's not too much to ask is it?

You know, they could easily squeeze HISMV, Spring Break and Night Ghoulery onto the one disk.

I would somehow think that a DVD set would exist in Japan before the US. They're more apt to have such releases.

-- Kane ... such as PPG on a 5-disc DVD set ... and there's gonna be 3 of such sets.

The problem with a Japanese release of course would be the cost. Japanese DVDs usually cost about three times the price of a disk in the US and Europe.
A TTA boxset would probably be in the region of 150,000 Yen. ( Well over $100 )
Even a copy of HISMV on it's own would probably weigh in around the $50 mark.
Then there's the problem of region coding. Japan is zone 2 ( the same as Europe, South Africa and the Middle East ) so in order for American fans to view it, a multiregional player would be needed.
Most Japanese disks seem to be of a high quality however, so if TTA was released it would probably get 5 star treatment.
It would almost certainly have the original English language track intact on a seperate audio channel.

I've been scanning DVD stores worldwide for TTA stuff but there's still no sign

Considering WB probably thinks that TTA is a dead property, we'll probably never see DVDs of it. The possibilities of getting A! DVDs are probably nil, too.

Well odds are we won't see any legal DVDs of TTA till it goes public domain but that won't be for a very very long time unless WB kicks the bucket.

But who knows maybe one day WB will be bought out by a someone that wants to use stuff like TTA to expand their monopolistic powers.

    TTA a dead property?
I'm not so sure about that. I'm sure WB are well aware of it's cult following.
Besides, as far as I know HISMV was a great seller on VHS so I presume it will at least be considered for DVD.
There's a rumour at present that the entire first season of Batman:TAS is due for DVD release early next year. If that sells well it could mark the beginning of a new trend in releasing WB animation on disk.

But if WB doesn't release TTA all is not lost.
Recordable DVD machines are now on the market, pretty expensive at present but sure to fall in time. It's only a matter of time before we can all transfer our old VHS collections to disk. Okay, the quality will only be as good as the source but it'll be better than nothing and at least disks don't wear out like tape.

    That would be cool

Why record off the VHS when you can record the Lazerdisk version?

Why record off VHS when you could record off the LD?

Mainly because I don't think that HISMV LD was ever sold outside the US and it's in the NTSC format.
Outside of the US and Japan, LD never really caught on. I've never even seen disks on sale in this country. ( Ireland )
Over here we use the PAL colour sytem. Now while most equipment here seems to be PAL/NTSC compliant, ( imported US DVDs work fine ) I'm not too sure about recording from a NTSC source to a disk designed for usage on a PAL system.

Besides, as I've said, I think a lot of fans would be willing to put up with VHS quality as long as they knew that their copies of TTA were now practically permanent. ( They say DVD disks, if taken good care of, can last at least 60-70 years )

TTA will not be falling into the public domain any time soon. Anything copyrighted after 1979 has much better copyright protection for the owners. Sure you can find anything before that with it's copyright up for grabs, but after 1979 I believe you have to wait some 28 years before it's rights can become private property (that is if the owners don't renew the copyright).

I know but there is only so many times you are alowed to renew it. It is shy of 100 years (I think).
