From the Earth to the WB Studio Store (and a trip around it)
Yesterday, I decided to go to the local WBSS to see what it had to offer these days (hadn't been there in awhile)...
I noted that the whole store seemed "taken over" by either Harry Potter, Scooby Doo, or (most heavily) the Powerpuff Girls. Pokemon and Tweety themed stuff were still there, but its presence didn't seem to be as big as the other three (hard to imagine, I know).
Though I only gave the T-shirts a brief perusal (noting mostly a bunch of Superman-themed shirts), I did note a lack of any A!/PatB merchandise (even any beanbag toys).
Noted the selling of a large-sized Green Lantern (Hal Jordan version) action figure, which some kid was using two of to stage his own little fight (and his mother telling him with a French accent to put it back..the virtues of being deluged with tourists for the world's favorite overpowered automobile race).
Beepbeep might be interested in this one: a large stuffed doll of Speedy Gonzales called "Serenading Speedy"(?), with the box promoting him as (when his ear's pressed) singing "La Bamba" (which I didn't try).
Finally, I noted on the video screen that displays clips of various WB-related things play: the "Circus of Life" A! opener, a snippet of a Powerpuff Girls cartoon, and a snippet from the show "Norm" that had the lead characters engaged in some sort of bizarre Pokemon fight sequence: the lead character (Norm?) faces some kid dressed up like Ash, and Norm sends in his own Pokemon to fight (a "Pokemon-on-Ice"-style) Pikachu (complete with the ball-hurtling/"I choose you" bit). After Squirtle and Butterfree refuse to go into battle, two guys dressed like Team Rocket (complete with Meowth) show up to steal Pikachu. Ash orders a thunderbolt attack, and all vanish (presumably "blasting off [yet] again"), save for a smoldering-from-the-attack Norm. Bizarre that a prime-time TV sitcom would've done this (esp. since it sounds more up "Drew Carey"'s alley, a show where Captain Marvel showed up once)...
Actually, it is of my interest....my local store will be out of business soon, and last time I was there they had that very item on clearance. I bought it.
Ahhh! WBSS video screen flashback! I worked in a WBSS almost 6 years ago and every horrible moment of that never ending video screen loop featuring Hootie and the Blowfish singing in a Zepplin tribute album is still burned into my brain. Between that and the "Uh-Oh!" Tweety Bird shoplifting alarm, the studio store nearly ruined WB cartoons for me.
