    The K-Beast gets honored

    Like This Thread!
Entertainment Weekly has just named our fave network boss as the 13'th most powerful man in Hollywood{nothing on our other favorite boss though}But then again, perhaps the no 13 was aptly chosen for someone that doesn't bring us much luck.

Alright. Let's forget all the vendettas we animation fans have against him. Let's look at this entirely subjectively and logically.

This is the man who, single-handedly, lost both Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Roswell, two of his network's most popular shows, without the short span of a few months. To UPN. I don't know the full story behind Roswell, but Buffy would have been more than happy to stick with the WB. But Kellner senselessly went before the press and absolutely bashed the show--his own show!--and called it infantile and silly. For *absolutely* *no* *reason* *at* *all*. And, due solely to his idiocy, Buffy pulled up stake (no pun intended).

Guess you'd call that "power." But I don't know how anyone on this side of Arkham's gates would even consider honoring him as a Hollywood exec, anymore than one would honor Ed Wood as a great director.

    AAAHHHHH!!!

Okay....he destroys the Silver Age, he makes a crappy Toonami, and he did lose both shows that Craig said. Yet...

....he's still powerful. Okay, everyone: "GEE, WHAT ARE THE ODDS?!"

No, really, why is he powerful? Even with Pokemon WB is still a very unstable and unsafe company, and Osmosis Jones proved that. I'd think he'd be one of the LEAST powerful...
Signature. A noun. It is, in internet terms, a series of words, phrases, and pictures at the end of every post used to make posts more fun to look at and show the user's uniqueness.

    ....I wish I had a decent one.

Well, as I understand it, the Buffy situation was always a power play between Fox (which produced the show, and was in the process of acquiring a 50% stake in UPN) and Warners. When it came to renew the license Fox saw itself in a no-lose position: It could put the screws to WB for an outrageous licensing fee (sucking money from a competitor in return for leaving a hit show on said competitor) or move it to UPN to anchor a new night. WB was thus in the unenviable position of having to bluff back. Any "trashtalk" was designed to shake Fox's confidence in its show, and so to lower the price that WB would have to pay to keep the show on the air.

Obviously this was not a situation that would lead to good feelings all around, but EVERYONE involved was acting like a shark.

This is the man we blame for every problem involving Kid's WB, Cartoon Network, Primetime WB, and basically all of WarnerBros.

Either Kellner is a scapegoat or he really is one of the most powerful (albiet negatively), so he does deserve to be on the list.

Ironically, 13 is my favorite number.

All that means for him for being listed is that he's in charge of making decisions...

Doesn't mean he makes smart ones. NARF!

I'll second that. REPUGNANT! Ah, he probably didn't get that bit, either.

Just because you're powerful doesn't mean you're not an out-of-touch jerk.

I forgot to mention that he's reposible of booted Wayan's Bros. off the air.

and has Ent. Weekly sniffing on some Clorox to get high?, K-Zilla, powerfull ja*^&*s of Hollywood. Sooner or later, somebody will take his throne and bring back the silver age stuff. As for me...all I want is to animate, direct, and produce.

Remember, Time Warner owns Entertainment Weekly. Think about it.

EW mentions that at least once an episodes. Even idf it's the simplest connection, they'll somehow always mentioned that Time Warner owns them, etc...

Standard practice for journalism to identify one's connection with the subject of a story, if there is one ("conflict of interest" issues)....

RE: the "other boss": I presume the other "favorite" boss of ours that Robert infers to is Rupert Murdoch....who last time I checked was trying to buy out some sort of satellite services or other (and was pleased to be rid of Fox Family)...

FOX Family - a channel with so much potential turned into a joke. God the channel went bad fast. FOX really can ruin great potential channels.

That's really sad, but it's not the first time there's been a producer with no creative appreciation or sense of humor. Take, for instance, a man Chuck Jones writes about negatively every time he gets the chance...Leon Schlesinger's successor, Eddie Selzer. Apparently, the cartoon "Bully for Bugs" was made just to defy him. And that's just the cartoons...I've read accounts of Jack Warner himself being a jerk. Why do so many heads of creative goldmines not appreciate their own properties? It's Dethpicable, it's REPUGNANT, it's...well, it sucks.

Being a producer is a hard thing

Basically, the best producers have been those who know how to hire good people and then get out of the way. But tell your bosses that your entire strategy consists of doing nothing and they're likely to fire you. So producers have to insert themselves in order to justify themselves.
