    Why'd Charlie Adler Quit?

    Like This Thread!
Sorry if this is something every TTA fan should know, but why did Charlie Adler stop voicing Buster all of a sudden? And by all of a sudden, I literally mean just that. In one of the final episodes from the 1991-92 season, Buster is voiced by Adler for two of the three cartoons, and then John Kassir for the third. Adler clearly didn't die or anything. He's heard every hour in one of CN's crappy original productions. Did he and WB have some sort of falling out? I noticed that in the Christmas and Spring Break Specials, it was Kassir doing Buster.

Personally, I prefer Adler's Buster. Kassir's is just too scratchy.

He didn't quit. Adler was fired. So was Joe Alaskey.

Adler and Alaskey were stunned when their agent didn't get them parts on the next show, Animaniacs. Then they found out that Tress MacNeille was making what they were combined. They sacked the agent and went to WBA on the warpath. After a huge argument they were dismissed. Alaskey swallowed his pride and went back (Moe LaMarche replaced him for a couple of episodes.) Adler didn't. He's done all right for himself, both in roles and moving into voice direction.

    Verrrrry interesting.

I've always thought that Kassir's approach (he's extremely talented, otherwise) to Buster was lacking something. It gets me to thinking about an episode of TTA. Warning: you might run into some savage IRONY! (sorry, KITH moment).

There was an episode that was most likely recorded before Adler's departure: it was an atypically weak (compared to other anthology eps) outing based on "Tales from the Crypt". Buster was the Cryptkeeper, and he was voiced by...wait for it...Charlie Adler! The irony is that Adler's take on the Cryptkeeper was just as off as Kassir's take on Buster (or maybe it's me). BTW, this ep, IIRC, aired sometime in 1993 or 1994.

Lastly, I guess my ears aren't as sharp as yours, don: In what eps did Moe LaMarche voice Plucky?
I feel that a big problem with today's society is that we don't listen to our fellow man -- especially when I'm talking.

I never knew Joe Alaskey and Charlie Adler were fired!
I detected the voice change in Buster but not Plucky. ( Which episodes? )
John Kassir's take on Buster wasn't the best but it was okay.

I dunno. I think it was two episodes. I also understood Kassir did the "Crypt" episode and didn't vary his voice from the Keeper at all.
