Yes!!!! Hah hah it shall be mine!!!
Yes, I heard from IGN that they'll add new stuff to tighten up the deffensive strategy of the thing, so I'll be into it.
By the end o' October...
....the ultimate strategy game should be out! And if any of you have played Civilization 1 or 2, I know you'd be excited too! Anyone else waiting for it? I know I am, biding my time until I build up another empire again...and the culture thing should be a useful addition to the game, and so should the special units...I can't wait to use the F-15 fighter for the Americans!![]()

Yhea I can't wait.
Yeah....that's gonna be a big thing for me as well. Civ 2 was excellent, but it was way too easy to conquer the world and be done with it. Now for all us peaceniks out there culture will help us out in war AND peace (ala diplomacy)...something for everyone, I guess!SAID BY I.R. Being a Mac user I'm slightly less excited. But the Mac launch is slated for January or so, right?
(Grabs a Firaxis exec). RIGHT??!!!
Oh crud-I HAVE A MAC!! D'OH! (smashes head against wall)
Yep, the Mac release should be around January. Oh well.... At least we Mac-users have the perfect belated Christmas gift!
Of course, there are rumors of a multiplayer feature; if it is implemented this means a BIG delay for Windows AND Macs...

Another Mac user! So, got any home-made scenarios or maps for swap?Originally posted by BourgeoisBuffoon

No....not only do I have zilch knowledge on designing a scenario, but if I went the way of the classic Civ2 scenarios ala Rome and World War II in Europe and do nothing special in graphics/events, it'd be worthless-those graphics and events are nuttin' compared to stuff like Imperium Romanum or Atlantis...and oh, yes, it's hard to find a worthwhile event nowadays, since EVERYTHING big has been used...SAID BY MAXIE ZEUS: So, got any home-made scenarios or maps for swap?
Maps? Not any real world ones; no time to build one up. The only map I really designed was a custom map based from the Andu Idorin's Rome Timeline at Civfanatics.com...and even then it's too easy to use for anyone on a skilled level.
But I am interested if you have any, Zeus...never thought you made scenarios and maps.

Yeah, I heard about that on another site, but it's really great news.

Well, that's what happens when you can't find decent stuff on the internet, or can't figure out how to download it. You make it yourself.Originally posted by BourgeoisBuffoon But I am interested if you have any, Zeus...never thought you made scenarios and maps.![]()
My stuff isn't special, or as good as the stuff on civfanatics. I am REALLY bad at icons, so have to use the stuff packaged on Gold. That's one reason I was so keen to finally get into civfanatics' files.
Most of my stuff is earth based. Maps of the Mediterranean, Europe, Eurasia, North America and the like. (Including a funky, non-standard projection of the Earth; pretty good on relative sizes, at the expense of losing Australia and Antarctica.) I also have one fantasy map I'm really proud of and one kill-or-be-killed map set in the deserts of the American Southwest, where I grew up. (I need to do a Mad Max scenario using that last one.)
Most of my scenarios are also earth-based. So I did a "Diplomacy" scenario, with (mostly) the same Great Powers portrayed in that board game and set in the same time period. (No real changes with the units or techs, as it is designed to be a multi-player diplomacy game.) Most of the rest are piddling things I churned out over a weekend, just to play with an idea. Nothing special.
My three big scenarios took several weeks to put together, but are not nearly as complicated as those up on civfanatics:
* "The Birth of the Nation State" is set in Europe circa 1500-1700. Took forever to get the board set up, and it still needs serious tweaking with research paths and special units.
* A fantasy universe with four different research paths: White Magic, White Tech, Black Tech and Black Magic. White and Black are mutually exclusive; discover the root tech of one and it obsoletes all the units in the other. The neat thing about it is that you can play it on any board. I used it to put together a LotR scenario. I'm curious to look at the LotR up on civfanatics, but the download crap has thus far foiled me.
* "The Clash of Civilizations" (still at work) combines the above two. It's set on Earth c. 1300-1900 and depicts three parallel research paths, heavily military, technology and happiness heavy, respectively. Euro-Christian, Muslim, Slav, Asian Indian, Chinese, Mongol and Aztec compete.
If any of these sound interesting, let me know.
Actually, Zeus, with some of the stuff I downloaded, I'd have to say yours sound a lot more interesting and professional than some o' the stuff at Civfanatics. ESPECIALLY the tech tree...most people would have a lotta trouble just making up techs for ONE tech tree! You got FOUR in a scenario...that's amazing!
...Ah....would it trouble you if I asked for "Birth of the Nation State" scenario? I always enjoyed historical stuff from that area.

Hee hee. It was harrowing work, I'll say that. I did it just after getting Gold to replace my original Civ 2. I didn't even know how to manipulate the scenario editor right. And then I decided to make up 4 different trees!Originally posted by BourgeoisBuffoon Actually, Zeus, with some of the stuff I downloaded, I'd have to say yours sound a lot more interesting and professional than some o' the stuff at Civfanatics. Not at all. It's totally a war scenario, you should know, with no need or point to make tech advances or improvements. But the arena is complicated (especially if you play Brandenburg-Piedmont), and there's a few unexpected twists to watch out for....Ah....would it trouble you if I asked for "Birth of the Nation State" scenario? There are a few obvious tweaks I have to make to it. Can you wait a few days?
I can wait! And it's a war scenario, eh? Heh heh heh...and the harder, the more fun it is to get squashed....
Hey, any pre-packaged gold scenarios you did like? About the only ones I like to play nowadays are the Dinos and Discovery ones...at least you still get to build in those.

Um, not really. The historical ones bug me because the maps are unusually hideous, and often I feel like I could do better on design and layout.Originally posted by BourgeoisBuffoon Hey, any pre-packaged gold scenarios you did like? The magic/scifi ones are like learning a totally new game, so I haven't paid much attention to them. I should test out the Dino one, though.
Are there any scenarios on civfanatics you could particularly recommend? Imperium Romanum, which you mentioned, sounds good. I also like the look of the new Turks! scenario, which I did successfully download.
THE CRUEL SEA, about the Battle of the Atlantic, is a good war scenario-the goal is to destory as many sea units as possible and 'cripple' enemy shipping. Quite a twist...
In fact, many of the scenarios in the scenario review section are quite good. Check 'em out!Other than those, many scenarios are in fact not that hot-too many cities, units, or goals-the original WW2 pre-packaged scenario is actually a fav because it has the right amount of everything with nothing special. The one exception is ATLANTIS, which is very unique and clever.
I'm a builder and peacenik, which is why I gravitated toward ATLANTIS, DISCOVERY, etc.-I just enjoy the ocasional war scenario.
Actually, many of the maps in the game I think are quite good, but the worst part about them is that you cannot use them-no MP.file...(thinking of the Mongol scenario here...)
