The X-BOX is from Microsoft, Gamecube from Nintendo.
This thing looks interesting. As Sega no longer supports the Dreamcast , a gamecube is what I may get...

They're right, Derek. Here's a condenced version of the general consensus for the systems: The Gamecube looks like it'll correct the N64's mistakes and become viable competition for the PS2, while the Xbox is mediocrity made plastic.

Those wacky IGN folks and their box art stories. Mmmmm, printed cardboard...

    Preach it Hatter!

Microsoft copied the Macintosh....now it will try to copy video game systems! Even the name (box to cube) is a ripoff...and correct me if I'm wrong, but has Microsoft developed games for the WRETCH-Box, or is it gonna be like PS2 and rely on too many third party developers?

Well since Sega isn't supporting the Dreamcast anymore (Damn! ). I say Gamecube is the wave of the future and the next system I'll get. Mostly because I like Zelda and the X-box doesn't have any games I want.

    Xbox blather

Microsoft is putting out a ton of games for the Xbox themselves. But remember, this is Microsoft... they don't innovate, they just slap their own label onto what's popular. As a result, aside from the next Oddworld installment and possibly Halo, all of their games feel like they were designed not by game developers, but by marketing executives. There's your generic racing game, your generic sword and sorcery adventure, your generic Mario Party ripoff... ech.

Speaking of ripoffs, have you seen the controller? It looks almost exactly like a black version of the big, obnoxious Dreamcast controller (I love the Dreamcast, but its controller was a pain), only bigger and more obnoxious.

The only way I'll pay attention to the Xbox (which I'm honestly trying to give a fair shake, but it keeps botching things up) is if Microsoft takes a page from Nintendo and Sega and actually attemptes to create something original. Hell, even Sony creates something original once in a while with Dark Cloud and the upcoming Ico.

All valid points, and I agree. But I'm still cringing when I see all these new damn systems! I still get some good use out of my SNES, GENESIS, and PLAYSTATION (only bought it for the Capcom Crossovers titles).

And thoughts of buying a Dreamcast from a Funcoland or something browsed through my head because of Marvel vs Capcom 2 and Capcom vs SNK. But even that's only two games. I can't keep buying a system just because of one game! lol. But if there was ONE I would get and stick with, so far Nindendo has DONE IT AGAIN!

I too don't have high hopes in the X-Box. I remeber Windows CE on the Dreamcast and I remeber I thought it would be cool when I first heard the Dreamcast would have it but when I played Windows CE games I noticed it made the Dreamcast look weak. Bust a Move was ok with it so was Sega Swirl but the others like Hyole Casino were slow. Plus I got a chance to sit and try Windows XP and it made me actully see the bright side of having 98.

All this talk about DC slowly passing on makes me miss my old CD-32 it died so young (even sooner then the DC will) they only thing stoping it from getting a market share was Commadore going bankrupt

Nightwing makes a good point-seems every big techno company wants a share in the vid-game market....
....and I still remember my Genesis VERY fondly. Ah, the days of 16 bit....we miss you!

Of course, the United States will use a completely different kind of box.

BTW, I still have my old Genesis machine and played it earlier in 2001...

Wow. The Gamecube is going to be the best system ever. I can't wait for all of that third party support! And the defeat of Sony! And Sonic in Super Smash Brothers! Yes, this will be a new age in the realm of Nintendo!

Wait. Jack Bauer--you play video games?

I wonder what amazing Rare support there'll be? Donkey Kong 128? Banjo Three-ie? Conker 2? Maybe even a game about piniatas! "Grabbed by the Ghoulies" looks promising too. I bet it'll be a smash hit!
