Actually you'd be better off comparing it to Age of Empires and games like that. But like StarCraft, it is an RTF. I'll post a review I did for my site. I personally like it, i'm in a gaming league for Galactic Battlegrounds.
"LucasArts hits the PC gaming community with its own brand of RTS... again. This time... it was a lot better. After their dismal failure of Force Commander, LucasArts throws its hat back into the RTS ring with a RTS based on a varient on the Age of Empires engine. The game is very easy to learn and all of its 6 Star Wars based civilizations(Rebel Alliance, Galactic Empire, Trade Federation, Gungans, Royal Naboo, and the Wookies) are more or less created equal as far as tech trees go with some small differences.
The games simplisity is one of the fastest factors that you will notice almost instantly. Its easy to learn and the best part is... once you learn a civilization... you've pretty much learned them all. Learning the way of the ground warrior is easy as far as Battlegrounds goes.
The graphics are fairly average for an RTS. The units are very easy to identify, even the hero characters you can tell are the heros. The buildings are another piece of eye candy that many will enjoy. If you have a fast machine(and almost everyone now does) you will notice a smooth ride along in this stratagy game.
The sound is quite good. Like all most ALL of LucasArts' Star Wars games they strung together pieces of John Williams score for all of the Star Wars movies that are released and made one mega track to play through out game play. The voices are loud and clear and are different to each unit and fits them perfectly(and yes the droid troops of the Trade Federation say their classic 'Roger. Roger.'). The heros don't have the star power behind them but some clever subsitiutes pick up the slack... kinda... ok thats kind of a lie.
Multiplayer is good... its very LucasArts at least so don't expect a ping in the 100's or under. Multi is where most of the meat of the game is so try and hit MSN's Zone and find some people to play and fight. The Single player campaign gets old really fast and just doesn't really grip the interest of myself and many I have played with online(which is why they are there in the first place).
Overall its a balenced game and makes up for the Force Commander fiasco... barely. This is a nice hold over until Febuary when Jedi Knight II comes out... which will be a nice hold out until Star Wars: Galaxies comes out... which is what everyone is waiting for to begin with. If you have a GameCube or getting one... check out Rogue Leader... all I have to say about it is... HOLY CRAP!"
Give at least the demo a try... you might like it.
