I love the Suikoden series. I played the crap out of both of them espacially 2 (did everything). What a great sequel. Flik's my favorite character too.

Me Afriend let me use them ( wait I still have them). They are fun to play and I like the storyline I got pretty far on 1 but not on 2 with school and work and all that jazz but they still a fun an very enjoyable games to play.

So what is this game? I'm sure I've heard of it before. I think my friend was talking about once, but I wasn't really paying attention to him. It's an RPG right? He loves RPGs, and he makes sure that everyone knows it.

My memory's alittle shoddy but it's an RPG about a rebel army fighting the state army. You play as a nameless hero who leads the rebel army. The story starts with two friends (you and Jowy) in the state army. One thing leads to another and they go there seperate paths. I don't wanna give anything else away. It's a great game and if you're a fan of RPGs you really should give it a try.

Basically the Suikoden games take place in a world where people can use runes to gain great power. There are runes for everything: elemental runes, magic runes, healing runes, attack runes, ability runes, command runes, etc. Above these are the 27 true runes from which all other runes originate. And Legend has it that the 27 true runes originate from the Rune of Beginning (which is actually one of the 27 true runes, and is also split half). Each of the 27 true runes has unique abilities as well as the ability to grant it's wielder protection from aging.

In the first game you play a hero (who you name) that's the son of a famous general. You quickly learn the truth about the Empire in which you live and join a resistance movement. When the movement is ambushed and slaughtered you become it's new leader, gather 108 Stars of Destiny (other characters) around you and lead the rebellion to over through the government. Essentially it's a civil war that lasts about 4 years (official information), which by the end is actually a completely different fight which is later called the Gate Rune War. During that time you fight major battles, gather allies (the 108 SoD), go on quests, and acquire the [True] Rune of Life and Death (also known as The Souleater), and see some of the people closest to you die. Most of the game takes place in what becomes the Torin Republic.

In the second game, which takes place three years after the first, you play yet another hero who you name that's gets stuck in the middle of a temporary truce between two warring nations. It's really the story of You and your best friend Jowy (

) who end up on separate sides of the conflict. Once again you end up leading the 108 Stars of Destiny (about 21 or 22 of which return from the first game), gather allies, fight major battles, go on quests, and acquire half of the Rune of Beginning: the Bright Shield Rune (guess who gets the other half

). The entirety of the game covers a span of about 6 months (official information). Most of the game takes place in the Jowston Alliance and the Highlands.

In the third game, well I don't know much about it except that it takes place about 15 years after the second game in an area known as the Grasslands and that a bunch of people are searching for "The Fire Hero", bearer of the True Fire Rune. And so far only about 6 or 7 characters are confirmed as returning from the previous games. That and (this IS official) "people confirmed as dead in S2 will be in S3". Me, I'm hoping that means Solon Jhee, Culgan and Seed. Who exactly are they? Go play the games and find out you inquiring mind you.

But Culgan and Seed would be great to see again. Hopefully we can see more of Yuber and Pesmerga's feud too. But being 25 years after Viktor and Flik will be pretty old if they're in it. Also they finally ditched the sprites which is good and bad. Good for better battle graphics but bad to series' fans who liked the sprites. And the duck people look strange.

I think the moving away from the sprites was done in order to survive. The fact is that a Sprite based PS2 RPG is sadly not going to sell well. But once they have the engine in place creating the future games will be so much easier. From this point on all they'll have to do is design and render new characters and areas and write the stories. The games will now be cheaper to make and more profitable for the company. The entire Xenogears saga is going to use the same game engine and be released one chapter a year for the next 6 years (yay! they're going to re-do Xenogears ((Xenosaga chapter 5))). I think they'll do something similar with future Suikoden games.

I wish Konami would try to hype Genso Suikoden a bit more, it's one of the best RPG's around after all. I also wish that they would release the two Suikogaidens over here.

Yeah, but there have been tons of rumors about who they really are though. Like the rumor that they're incarnations of the Sword and Shield from that legend. Some other people think they could be clones of each other. Who knows?

That's cool, but I thought it was fine the way it was. Yet another game that was not hyped enough, which I found to be better then all the Final Fantasy's they made for the PS1. Now if we could only see the status of the FF7 remake....

Oops misread that the first time through. Now that you mention it at 40 or so compared to other fighters thats young. Espacially someone like Han.

I liked the sprites too. Very clean and detailed. Only problem was the pixelated fights but it's nothing big. And if they did re-release S2 with a better translation I can finally find out the jibberish a few people say like in Highway Town and Forest Village.

Yeah, much like what happened to Captain Rowd. I hope he's in GS 3 somewhere so I can pay him back for good. Not like that time you fought him in Kyaro city.

Be cool if we did, I wonder if we would be able to use his ability to summon monsters? I wonder what would happen if you ended up with Yuber and Pesmerga on your side.

I too have suikoden 1 and 2.

I have beaten both of them. I enjoyed playing both of them

And i have seen the best ending of both games.

Suikoden I is the only game I have that i played once, solved it, played it again, and solved it. I enjoyed it that much.

I plan on trying out Suikoden III for the PS2 when it comes to the US.

I'll be honest, I enjoyed both games better than any of the later Final Fantasy games (7,8,9,10)

I doubt we'll ever see Yuber as a Star of Destiny. That would be like having Wendy, Neclord, or Luca as a SoD.

I think he fled to the Torin Republic after the last time you humiliate him in battle in S2. He was actually looking to raise money to hire a doctor in Torin to heal his sister, but it's not known if ever got enough money together.

Probably the apocalypse.

The resolution (and the revelation behind their conflict) is supposed to happen in the last game of the series. So who knows? But I doubt that you'll ever see them together, except on the battle field, and always on opposing sides. P only reason for joining the other SoD's seems to be to when it's opportunity to get close to Y.
