That's awesome news. I had a feeling that the games would come out in either October or November, but I'm still a bit surprised too. I was expecting the games to come out in the middle or near the end of either one of those months, but this works fine for me as well.

There was only a new protagonist in The Legend of Thunder special, whose name was Jimmy if I recall correctly. Personally, while I can understand why people would want a new character to replace Ash, I don't think it would work out that well. It probably could have worked if they did that during either Johto or at the start of AG, but it's far too late to consider replacing their main character at this point.

Is there any reason I should go out of my way to play the 1st Black / White before this? I'm assuming continuity isn't very important on this one.
I would suggest that it's not the medium, but the quality of perception and expression, that determines the significance of art. But what would a cartoonist know? -Bill Watterson

You most likely won't need to play the first Black or White games before playing their sequels. I imagine that they would still make the games accessible to everyone in case there are some people playing a Pokemon game for the first time like they've done with basically all of the main series games. Even so, the events from the first games do impact the storyline in these games, especially with Team Plasma from what little I've heard about them and why Unova went from having only having fifth generation Pokemon at first to having Pokemon from all of the different regions available from the start. Some of the details of the games might mean more if you knew what happened in the first games, especially with how the rivals from the first games turn out here. I don't think it would be really necessary to play the first games, but you'd probably get a bit more out of the storyline for one of the sequels if you did play through one of the first games.

If you care about story, GWOtaku, play the first B/W. From all the spoilers I've read, it is a direct continuation of the plot from that game. I don't know if it's necessary to know all that stuff to get full enjoyment, but from what I've seen, it focuses on a lot of the same characters and how the conflict from the first game has evolved.

If you don't are about the story all that much, then just skip the first Unova game. Personally, i don't really think much of the plot. I'm mainly just playing this one to fight in that tournament you unlock.

I pretty much got most of the plot from Black and White from helping my two little cousins beat their versions. I don't think GWOtaku will miss too much besides the obvious references and characters who appeared last time.

It's been a very long time since I got so excited for a Pokemon game(since..Pearl I think?) and it looks like all of this added content I've been reading about when it comes to who you can challenge later on in the game is getting me pumped.

I also think it's pretty cool that..
    Spoiler:
You get N's Zorua and can find his other pokemon

Still, I think that the storyline in the sequel games would mean more if one played through the first games and was familar with its conflict and characters. Like I mentioned before, it wouldn't be really necessary in order to understand and enjoy the sequels, but considering what I've heard about Team Plasma in these games and how the rivals turn out, I think that there would be some emotional invest lost without going through the first game. But, I think people will be able to enjoy these games either way.

I haven't read too much about it, but I have heard about the new content for the later parts of the games, which makes me quite happy. I was hoping that they would be adding more post-storyline content since there was so little to do after finishing the storyline in the first B/W games, so I'm hoping that the post-storyline content in these games will have more offer.

I heard they added a challenge mode after beating the game for the first time. It would be cool to see how they harden the game up since I noticed that some people have different rosters and higher levels than before.

Bumping this thread up a bit to report that the really awesome animated trailer from a while back has been dubbed!

I find it really funny that Jason Griffith voices Cheren in this. That's two BW gym leaders that he's voiced in anime form. Other noteworthy cast members that I noticed were Lisa Ortiz as the female BW2 trainer and Sean Schemmel as Hugh (The Rival.)

Ugh, seeing it fully dubbed like this is making me even more despressed that it's only a promotional trailer. WE WANT MOAR, NINTENDO!

Bianca sounds so much better in that video than she does in the anime. Sorry, Bella Hudson.

Meh, the Japanese versions sound better.
And why does the Hyperbeam look like Nightshade?

One thing I do like though, is that the Pokemon don't say their names and make the sounds they do in the game.

Haha, I actually did a fantasy cast of this, not expecting it to actually be dubbed. Of course, since I didn't expect it, I went all out with using every talent pool, even though I knew that if there was ever a chance of it being dubbed, it would be the New York talent pool. Too bad Nintendo USA doesn't think people care about the cast like Nintendo Japan does. Also, the Mei vs. Cheren scene totally wasn't in the original. How did I not hear about that when it was uploaded? For the record, after watching that, I would have had Mei voiced by Stephanie Sheh in my fantasy cast. Of course the New York Pokemon dubbing crew isn't nearly as good as most standard dubs or the Japanese version, but it seemed better than regular Pokemon to me. And I didn't notice any edits, and it makes me really happy to see even Pokemon USA treat this beautiful promo video with the respect it was treated with in its production.

I totally agree. I like Bianca's voice in this promo so much that I wish she had that voice in the anime instead of Bella Hudson. Her voice for Bianca is just way too high-pitched for the character. Even though this voice sounded like a slightly older Iris, I thought it fit Bianca much more.

I don't know. That was really confusing to me since Hype Beam is suppose to be bright.

I actually don't like that too much myself, even though it would make sense to do that for a promotional video that doesn't have anything to do with the anime. I'm just not a huge fan of the cries from the games in animated form since it doesn't sound that natural to me, but it also helps I'm just used to most Pokemon crying out their names in animated form.

From what I've heard, the Mei vs. Cheren scene was an extra scene that was included with some DVD release of the promotional trailer in Japan. Personally, I would have loved to see another trailer devoted to Mei covering other aspects of the game, but that probably would have meant spending more money than they wanted to. Still, it was pretty awesome that she was at least included. The battle looked pretty cool.

Anyway, I've seen the dub trailer and I thought that it was pretty good. Unfortunately, I didn't like the voice they gave N. It seemed too flat and lacked the emotion his English voice really needed. I also didn't like Elesa's voice as she sounded completely emotionless in her delivery. I really liked Bianca and Mei's voices though. Bianca actually had a nice sounding voice that fits with her character to the point where I wish she sounded like that in the anime. Mei's voice was quite nice and it fits rather well. Cheren, while a bit too gruff, also kind of worked for me. Hugh and Corless being voiced by Sean Schemmel worked fine, especially for Corless. The voice for the male trainer was okay. The trailer is still extremely cool and I would love it if they continued to make animated trailers like this for each new game in the main series. It would hype them up quite a bit and it would be fun to watch them too.

Oh yeah, I meant to mention that it was interesting to cast Schemmel as both Hugh and Colress. He was definitely good as both, but it suggests that this may not have gotten much of a dubbing budget, to double-book someone in such a tiny cast size.

Pretty sure they also double-booked Jason Griffith as both Cheren and that Team Plasma guy.

That's pretty cool. I wasn't expecting them to release Genesect that soon, but it kind of reminds me of how they had Victini available at the release of B/W. It's a nice way to boost sales for the first few weeks so that people get a free legendary Pokemon right from the start too. I still need to get my Keldeo, but I should be able to do that sometime this weekend.

Cool, glad to see Nintendo finally acknowledging Genesect. Top download as always. Though this does remind me about Keldeo and how I kind of neglected to catch the Musketeer Group. I need to fix that error in my White.
