If it's a true Mario game, then they should have called it "Super Mario Gamecube" or "Super Mario Cubed."
Okay, I've taken a look at Gamespot.com and they have a brief summary of the Gamecube's contribution to the great Mario series, Mario Sunshine. I have four questions for this discussion:
1. What do you think of the title of the game?
2. What do you figure Mario's water gun is for?
3. Do you think Miyamoto is hiding a cool secret about Sunshine?
and lastly...
4: Do you think we might see Luigi in this one? (I'm a Luigi fan, myself)
Let the discussion begin!
If it's a true Mario game, then they should have called it "Super Mario Gamecube" or "Super Mario Cubed."
Favorites! (1) Action: Transformers & G.I. Joe; Visionairies; The DCAU; Robotech, DBZ, Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo & Trigun; TMNT, MOTU; and Avengers: EMH; (2) Comedy: The Simpsons & Futurama, Space Ghost: Coast to Coast & The Brak Show, Sealab 2021, Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law, ATHF, The Boondocks, The Venture Bros., and Archer
Well, here's my thoughts:
1- This is a paradox. For one, the term 'Mario' in it will make it a success. However, the term 'Sunshine' doesn't sound right on the tongue. Most likely its important to some gameplay/story element we have yet to hear, I'm hoping. Still, whats in a name? That which we call a rose blah blah blah.
2- I'm gonna bet that its gonna be the gameplay equivelant of Link's Ocarina of Time. We've only seen it clean up paint globs falling from the sky, but thats the only thing Nintendo is letting the media see.
3- Undoubtedly. They've shown us next to nothing about the game. This time, they're not going to do what they did with Mario 64 and show off the final boss in trailers, and they're really keeping us in the dark in this one (ironic considering the title)
4- Given Nintendo's awareness at his popularity all of a sudden... I wish it were so! If anything, maybe he'll play a cameo appearance ala Paper Mario.

1. What do you think of the title of the game? -I'm fine with it. Sure, it's corny, but, hey, it's MARIO. It could be called Mario Toilet Flusher for all I care..![]()
2. What do you figure Mario's water gun is for? -to suck up blobs of funky colored rain that falls from the sky
3. Do you think Miyamoto is hiding a cool secret about Sunshine?-no doubt about it...
4. Do you think we might see Luigi in this one?-Hard to say. Maybe....I wouldn't mind it though..

Okay, now I'll answer. (A la John McLaughlin)
1. Well, I think that the name is a little lame, but it's from Japan already! Mario 2 in Japan was first known as Oki Oki Panic. (With different characters, of course.) Would that have gone over good in the States? I shudder to think about it.
2. I haven't a clue as to what the water gun thing is for. However, I hope it's not the only way you can defeat enemies. That's a departure from Mario as we know it.
3. I'm sure there's a little catch to the game somewhere, otherwise Miyamoto would have said "It's a Mario game, already!" I'm anxious to see what it is.
4. I hope Luigi will have some role in the game! The poor guy's only starting to get his break!
Here endeth the rants!
1. The title of the game doesn't bother me, all I care about is how fun the game will be. It could of always have been worse, like a few games I know of.
2. Uh, suck up weird looking paint that falls from the sky, I guess. Who knows what's going though Miyamoto's mind with that....
3. I'm rather sure something will be found in this new Mario game.
4. They damn well better!!Really though, after Nintendo finally found out that Luigi had a great number of fans, it would be stupid to not put him in a game with his brother, Mario.

Hehe, guess what? They just renamed Mario Sunshine! Now it is:
Super Mario Sunshine!![]()

Super Mario Sunshine rolls off the tounge better, I like it.
1. What do you think of the title of the game?
I dig it.. i mean honestly I could care less..Yeah it's lame but it's way more creative than just slapping a number at the end of the title...Besides it's a game about a plumber, how much lamer can we get ?
2. What do you figure Mario's water gun is for?
I dunno, sucking up paint and shooting it back at enemy's..
3. Do you think Miyamoto is hiding a cool secret about Sunshine?
Well ones already been revealed : The Water Gun ISN'T the only thing that Mario is going to be wearing or using in the game. "Hopes for revival of the Frog Suit"
and lastly...
4: Do you think we might see Luigi in this one? (I'm a Luigi fan, myself)
Possibly in a 2 player Mode..

Now, THAT'S more like it!actually, Super Mario Sunshine sounds better.. *scratches head* Dunno why..it just does..
1. Who cares? As long as it's Mario
2. We will be pleasently suprised.
3. Of course
4. Probably not, because of the whole Luigi's Mansion thing.
1. There's not much in a name, but I somehow doubt that the game will actually be called "Mario Sunshine"... Correct me if I'm wrong. The current title of Mario Sunshine probably relates to the tropical setting, and the fact that Shigeru Miyamoto wants to release the game in the summer (in Japan).
2. Mario's water tank appears to be used to suck up water falling from the sky, and it probably works as a sort of watergun weapon as well. I've heard that the plot of the game involves Mario's world melting, so this could have something to do with it, also.
3. Almost certainly. There's apparently more to this title than meets the eye.
4. Probably not, but I think we'll be seeing Yoshi.
Hmm...... perhaps I should have made use of [sarcasm] tags...Originally posted by luckybob1985

Sorry to offend all of you, but personally IN MY OWN OPINION
I HATE MARIO! I LOVE SONIC! GO SONIC! WOO-HOO! SONIC THE HEDGEHOG RULES! SONIC COULD BEAT UP MARIO ANYDAY!
I thought this kind of rampant rivalry was behind us. They're on the same console now, fer Shiggy's sake.
I own Sonic's Adventure 2, and I'll be owning Super Mario Sunshine the day it comes out. I'll probably even put the game cases right next to each other too.![]()
My origins have been clouded in mystery... some say that I was once a man, known as Hamato Yoshi. Another tale states that I was once merely a humble pet rat of a man named Hamato Yoshi. For the record allow me to state that both are true... and yet, neither is true. Such is the way of Ninjitsu.
1. The title of a Mario game means nothing... if Mario is in it, I buy it. But, Super Mario Sunshine, that title, it just, *pause*, fills the empty space in the original title. It seems complete now.
2. Lots of stuff- will probably do more as upgrades are found throughout the game.
3. You bet!
4. I am sure Luigi will make a comical appearance. Maybe a role like in Paper Mario, or a minute role in the credits like Super Mario RPG (the best Mario game ever).
And, Sonic and Mario wars, uh, if you have not heard, they are allies for the same system now. But hey, that would be an interesting game for Gamecube....
The Frog Suit is cool, but my favorite, very underused Mario "suit" was the giant shoe from SMB 3. It was only available in that 1 level from world 5 (I think it was 5-3). You could only see Mario's face poking out from this huge shoe that had a wind-up key on the back. I thought that was cool.Originally posted by Chris Sanders MSX

Yeah, that was fun. Personally though, my favorite was the Tanooki suit. It was adorable, gave Mario the ability to fly, and he could turn into a statue - making him invincible against anything, except maybe pigeons.

and they are still competing ya know, i mean, they are still two different companies games so they are still competing, just not as much. but sonic and mario have to face Crash, Spyro, and Jak and Daxter (but those three are no competition are they?)
