Thanks for clearing that up. I thought he was talking about the Gamecube but the CGN threw me off. The game look's amazing from what I've seen. If it plays like other N64 wrestling games then I'll be buying it when I get a GC.

While it of course won't be exactly like the N64 ones I hear that it will play kind of like that. And it is the first game on the nextgen systems to feature some of the wrestlers from the Alliance! Like Booker, Hurricane and RVD.

An article I read on Gamespot recently said that THQ wants to make the game "as up-to-date as possible. They said that the WWF's new "accquisitions", like Mr. Perfect and the nWo (Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash, and Scott Hall) will be in the game.

Wow. If that's the case, I might just pick up a GC. I've been considering either the PS2 or the X-box (because of Halo), but never seriously thought about picking up a GC. But now...

One question, though. What were the controls like on the N64 wrestling games? I've got Smackdown 2 for playstation and absolutely love the controls. Will the GC game be completely different in that regard? I'm sure it'll look great, and it sounds like the roster will be incredible, but will I have fun playing the game? If it's too hard to pull of moves, I'm not sure I'd want it.

After playing both the PS1 & 2 games and N64 games I can offer some thought.

I admit that 64 is my first system and PS was a friend's but I find the 64 controls a whole lot easier. On the PS I felt like I was trying to remember a lot and kept doing the same thing over again. The 64 games are considered good "party" games like Goldeneye because you can do 4 players with your friends and the learning curve for the moves in minimal. The first time I played one of the 64 games I was at a friend's house and had to learn how. I have many friends up at school who love those WWF games but dont like wrestling at all.

I would much rather play the 64 games and the style of the PS2 helped eliminate that system from the one I want to get list.

Smackdown 3 wasn't that great. The CAW is awesome, but the over all game play sucked. I hate the season mode. Smackdown 1 had the best season mode ever. Other than No Mercy.

I liked the No Mercy career mode.

Just in case someone just got the game I wants to know nothing--I know I would. I've put it in a super-fun spoiler box:

    Spoiler:
You pick the belt you want to go after and start. I really felt there was a lot of story line. Whether you won or lost determined what path you took. Sometimes Vince would plot against you with The Stooges or Boss Man & Bull and sometimes you would be on his side depending on choices you made. If you're challenged to a tag match you have to go in the locker room and pick a partner from a list of three. They can say either yes or no. If they say no, then you have to go it alone against your two opponents. There are so many different paths it takes a while to get thru them all. Some are similar to the other belts and some quotes should only be said by certain people, but overall I like it.

You're right. So is anything confirmed in terms of features and match types and all that? I'm assuming for sure that they'll have a CAW and a season mode. From what others have said, it looks like the roster will rock. Including the nwo in particular is sweet.

I'm hoping it'll have a good setup for creating stables and high replayability with the season mode.

    I'm so mad...

I loved WM2000 and No Mercy so much- they were awesome games. But my mom got me PS2 for my birthday (which, beleive me, I'm not complaining about) so I'm stuck with the subpar SmackDown series.

I will try to play this game at least once- it looks sweet.

Thanks for the link. From what was said in there, there won't be backstage areas, which kind of sucks. I don't understand why they have to leave out things that past wrestling games have had. That seems like a step down. Similarly, X-box's Raw is War doesn't have a season mode (from what I've heard) and is lacking a lot of match types.

Considering all that, I don't know if PS2's Smackdown is really all that bad. The graphics are pretty good, they've got tons of match types, including Hell in a Cell. There's a good CAW, a season mode, a large roster, backstage fighting, and other great stuff. Right now, even with it's flaws, Smackdown Just Bring It seems to offer more than Wrestlemania will or any other wrestling game at the moment.

I've already got a GameCube(Got it on launch day) and I'm definetly picking this game up. None of the N64 WWF (or WCW)Games after THQ took over from Acclaim have let me down, so I feel pretty safe in saying this game is going tobe freaking awesome.

I mean GC can do so much that N64 couldn't..It's going to be rediculous.

Nintendo wrestling is the only reason I want a Gamecube.
