Actually, Sonic Rush Adventure is 2.5D, so basically Sonic Advance 3 was the last 2D Sonic game.

I'm not getting my hopes up just yet. A 2D platformer is not an automatically good game, and SEGA hasn't given reason to have confidence in them lately.

I am quite happy getting my hopes up. I've always wanted a 2D game to push a platformer to its utmost limits. Here's hoping for Sonic 2D on the Wii.

I'm sadly certain that this won't be on the Wii. This thing is being built for HD, and the Wii doesn't support that.

I agree. Anyone remember how they handled the Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis port? I know it was a GBA game, but if Sega can't even port their game to a simple platform correctly, then I have low hopes for how an HD remake or even new game will be.

The idea does sound great though.

I'll see you the GBA port and raise you Sonic Rush for the DS. And, again, the 2D in Unleashed. They know how to do it.

The 2D in Sonic Unleashed was decent, but not perfect. Hated having to press two separate buttons in order to do the Homing Attack, but maybe I'm being nitpicky.

Rush was fun, but wasn't it developed by Dimps, not Sonic Team?

That is correct. It was developed by Dimps.

And those Green Hill-esque designs look pretty surreal. Guess we'll see some interesting looking level designs here!

Naw, I feel the same. I wasn't a fan of Sonic Unleashed's 2D portions, either.

I've more or less enjoyed every mainstream Sonic game, so I'm definitely excited for this one, too.

Green Hill zone. we've never seen THAT before.

And guys, Sega is not some amorphous entity or hivemind. The people who ported Genesis don't even WORK there anymore.

    That's good to know.

I only referred to whoever did the StH Genesis port as "Sega" because I wasn't sure which team did it.

I'm willing to give it a chance, but I'm not expecting much from the current Sonic Team.

This is great. This is what I want. Maybe if it works Sega will follow it up with a 3D Sonic game actually done right.

Hopefully, they'll slow him down and focus more on the platforming.

I think that was a drastic improvement, honestly. Kept me from accidentally using the homing attack when I didn't want to.

    I agree completely with this.

It's a shame it probably won't be on the Wii, but at least with a release on PSN/XBLA there'll probably be a demo and give us all a fair chance to try it and judge before blowing more money on another possibly mediocre game.
